GLOW GAZETTE
WEEK OF OCTOBER 30, 2023
Message from the Principal
Students & Parents,
We had a fantastic Spirit Week, with students and teachers bringing their creativity A-game each day! I am grateful to our staff, especially our Rituals and Traditions committee, who worked hard to make the Fall Festival on Friday special for our students and to our SGA Officers for planning memorable week.
Please ensure your student is back in uniform and on campus tomorrow, Monday, October 30st, as well as on the 31st. As a reminder, GLOW Academy is in session all five days this week; unlike NHCS, we do NOT have a Teacher Workday on Tuesday.
November is already upon us, with just 31 school days left to finish our first semester strong. This is often a busy time of year for families, but also a critical time of year for learning. Please make every effort to make sure that unless your child is feeling ill that she is on time and in attendance at school.
Wishing you all a great week ahead!
Kate B. Tayloe
Principal

Student Attendance & HS Course Credit
We want to remind students and parents of the legislative guidelines and GLOW School Board Policy around student attendance. You can read GLOW's Attendance Policy HERE. The implications for chronic absences (more than 10) are especially important to note, as the policy states:
Grade Level Retention/High School Course Credit:
Middle school students who have UNEXCUSED absences for more than 10% (20 days) in a school year may be retained.
High school students who have UNEXCUSED absences for more than 10% (10 days in a semester course; 20 days in a year long course) shall not be awarded course credit regardless of class average.
For HIgh School students, this means that if a student accrues more than 10 unexcused absences in 1st period, for example, they will not receive course credit for their 1st period course. It is so important that students earn credit for all courses for which they are enrolled to ensure they stay on track to graduate with their cohort.
Please ensure that your child is at school unless an absences is absolutely necessary. Also, please ensure that documentation for excused absences are submitted to the student's Leadership Advisory teacher or the school's Data Manager upon the student's return to school.
