The Engle Edition
January 20, 2017
Star Student
Monday January 23rd: Send in 10-12 pictures for the students to share with the class.
Friday: Students will read a book aloud to the class and they may bring an item for Show and Tell.
Put Your Heart Into Reading
1. Help your child choose 2 books that they can read in under 15 minutes.
2. Help them design and decorate a Valentine's Box that represents an element in one of their books. For example, if your child chose to read a book about baseball, then they might make a box that looks like a giant baseball. :)
*Please see the letter that came home in this week's Friday Folder for specific details.
*Check out Pinterest and http://www.simplykinder.com/valentines-box-family-project/ for ideas!
Fitness Force
Technology Corner
1. Information Gathering: This step is where the students are gathering information from resources (Blendspace, QR codes, books, etc.)
2. Information Processing: This is the biggest part! This is where the students process the information and the understanding takes place. It's the part where the learning happens, collaboration takes place and 'what to share' decisions are made.
3. Information Sharing: The students are creating a product to be shared with others about their learning.
Lesson for Next Week:
Information Gathering: Watch BrainPop Jr videos on Plane Shapes and Solid Shapes. Use the camera to take pictures of 2D and 3D shapes.
Information Processing: Create a PicCollage of images. Label the name of the shape and it's attributes. (sides, vertices, faces)
Information Sharing: Upload to Google Drive to share with class and family.

Art Contest
GCISD students of all ages are invited to create artwork illustrating the fun learning opportunities available through GCISD’s Summer Enrichment Program. This year’s theme is “Rockin' Through the Summer.” The winning artwork will serve as the cover design for the GCISD Summer Enrichment brochure, which will be posted on the website and provides information about registration and summer learning opportunities for students completing K-6th grades. Winning artwork will also be used to promote the Summer Enrichment Program through social media. The student who creates the winning entry will be recognized in the brochure and during a regular meeting of the GCISD Board of Trustees.
Art must be original and can be hand-drawn, painted, computer-designed or in any other medium. Judges will be looking for a design that is creative, appropriate and uses the “Rockin' Through the Summer” theme. Art should be on 8 ½” x 11” paper and submitted in color, but be able to be reproduced in black and white. Student's full name, school, grade and teacher's name should be on the BACK of the artwork. Please do not frame or mat entry to any size larger than 8 ½” x 11”. Our contest opened January 9, 2017, and the deadline for submitting the art is Friday, February 10th. Students should submit entries to their campus art teacher. Art teachers can submit any entries to Cindy Pearson at Colleyville Elementary.
