Volunteer News

Dear Minnesota 4-H Volunteers,

Welcome to 2023 and the new opportunities you have this year to positively impact young people through your service in the 4-H program. We are grateful for your presence alongside our young people and for the important role you play in helping them build skills that last for a lifetime.

Earlier this fall we focused conversation on developing a growth mindset in young people. Young people who display a growth mindset face challenges and pursue learning through effort over innate ability.

You can encourage a young person to practice developing a growth mindset by attending one of our upcoming leadership development seminars, BLU and TEEL. We know that young people are more likely to attend if they have support from someone else (like you!). We also recommend finding 2-3 youth to attend together. Young people will find comfort in trying new things when they are surrounded by their peers. Many local programs have funds set aside for youth to attend these events. Discuss these options with your local 4-H staff.

Don’t forget to stay connected to the Volunteer Resource Center for more tools and resources to support your service. If there is something you are looking for that you can’t find or maybe doesn’t exist yet, reach out to me so we can help.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Freeman, Extension Education, Volunteer Systems (NE region)
