Valentine’s Day

Many families traditionally plan to send in Valentines and treats with their children to share with classmates. We would like to request that families do not send in Valentines with students on Valentine’s Day. Classrooms will provide supplies and time for students to create these for each other rather than making this request of families. Thank you for your understanding.

What's New in Art?

We kicked off January with some wonderful winter watercolors. Students used tape to mask of their paper to create snowflakes (K) and birch forests (1st and 2nd). They used crayon to add other elements including "secret snowflakes." Students painted over their papers with cool, wintery colors and sprinkled some "magical snow crystals" on top. Some classes added details like little animals using collage.

In the next few weeks, we will be talking and thinking about Peace and Friendship and also examine the relationship between music and visual art. This is a deep dive into the possibilities of tempera paint. If you have yet to send in a smock - now would be a great time!
