Special Visitor
Uma's mom, Radhika kindly offered to come visit our 1B classroom to share about Diwali.
What is Diwali?
We learned that Diwali is a very popular Hindu festival of lights celebrated by millions all over the world.
Meaning
The festival celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
Celebrations
On the last day of Diwali, people light up diyas (lanterns) and candles around the house.
Painting Diyas
We were so lucky to get a chance to decorate our mini diyas with colorful paint.
Adding Designs
We made sure to take our time and using different brushes to create different designs.
Yummy Laddus
Umma's mom also brought a homemade popular sweet treat called "laddus" that people eat on Diwali!
Decorations
After the paint on our diyas dried, we added different colored stickers all over to personalize them.
Ellie's share
Ellie brought in a jumbo sized diya that she decorated plus fancy bedazzled Diwali ornaments!

We enjoyed reading a book about different places the turkey would hide and then drew pictures to match.
Coloring Sight Words
We love practicing identifying our sight words, especially when we get to color in the Thanksgiving turkey!
Things I am Thankful for
Thanksgiving is a great time for us to reflect on what we are thankful for in our lives. Make sure to watch the video above!
Word Search
Some of us like to challenge ourselves and solve word searches of Thanksgiving words.
Thank You Cards
Each of us wrote a thank you card to someone who we appreciate at our school and hand delivered them!
Make a Turkey Art
Can't forget our favorite art station which many students love! We had fun making turkeys...gobble gobble!
