This week in school
What a busy 'settling back in' kind of week!
This week we have been very grateful for such fabulous weather, amazing children, supportive parents and wonderful staff.
There has been such a lot of new things to get used to. For the children and staff that were here last year it must be difficult enough to get used to all the procedures and routines without all of the Covid restrictions again but for the staff and children who are new to the school, it must be even harder. Well done to all and thankyou to the team for supporting each other.
Our new children and families are very welcome and it's great to have you. May I say a particular welcome and well done to our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Walmsley, who has had a smile on her face and has tackled her first week here with such enthusiasm!
Our biggest challenges this week have been hometime at the gates and the logistics of lunchtime. We got there in the end thanks to team work. Mrs Walmsley has put up signs on the gate to separate Years 2/3 from Years 5/6 so that parents can greet their children more effectively and safely. Mrs Mansell has been adjusting lunchtime rotas and arrangements, tweaking things to make it run better as the week has gone on.
Have a lovely weekend - enjoy some rest and relaxation, family and fun!
Thank you for your continued support - have a really lovely weekend.

This week in classrooms
Nursery - Stars
What a fantastic first week we have had! We are so proud of the children; they have walked in with smiles on their faces and settled in brilliantly. Well done Stars!
This week, the children have explored their nursery environment, both indoors and outdoors, and have enjoyed accessing all the different provision available. We have focused on settling in and getting to know each other, learning nursery routines and structures, for instance story times and phonics. Our new sandpit and outdoor area have provided us with lots of fun.

The Reception children reached a wonderful and exciting milestone in their lives this week. They have embarked on a journey that will lead them on many roads of discovery and learning opportunities. The children have enjoyed exploring their new classroom environments, both inside and out. We have been impressed with how quickly they have settled in and followed our daily routines. They are becoming independent and learning how to find the resources they need. New friendships have been formed and all the team have enjoyed getting to know your children really well.
What a very hot and busy time we have had!

We are so proud of how well the Year 1 children have settled into school this week, they have really impressed us with their independence and enthusiasm to learn. We have enjoyed launching our new topic ‘Incredible Me’, immersing ourselves in the story Supertato by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra and discussing what makes us special.
Superstars - Fearne Colley, Max Willis
Year 2 / 3 Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune
What a busy and very warm first week we've had in Year 2/3! All the children have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know their new classmates; it has been wonderful to see them forming new friendships. We are extremely proud of how well the children have adapted to being in the Elizabeth building and impressed by their eagerness to begin learning after the long break. In Maths we have recapped place value (hundreds, tens and ones) and represented two and three digit numbers in different ways. In English the children have written descriptive sentences and in Guided Reading we have practised using inference, explanation and prediction skills. The children have shared their aspirations and hopes for this school year during PSHE and learnt several greetings in French. Well done Year 2/3 - a great start to the year!
Superstars - Sebastian Spooner, Martha Barker, Isla Lodge.
Year 4 Mars and Earth
We have been learning roman numerals in maths and have been reading chapter one of our class reading book 'How to train your dragon', we predict that Hiccup, the main character, may turn out to be an unlikely choice of leader for the first military operation. We've also enjoyed outdoor time orienteering in PE and carried out some practical investigations about how a boat floats and marvelled at how the Vikings managed to sail all the way from Scandinavia to land on Lindisfarne.
Superstars - Emily Smales, Carmen Mahon
Year 5 Asteroid and Pluto
Year 5 have made an impressive start to the new year and have been a pleasure to work with. Working well in groups again, at last, they have shown maturity and independence throughout the week. One of the emotional highlights of our first week back has been having Collective Worship in the hall altogether as a school community again. The beautiful singing was the icing on the cake. We are all looking forward to an exciting and productive Year 5 ahead.

Year 6 Nebular and Constellation
All we can say about the year 6 attitude, effort and work ethic is... wow! They have all started this year with traits that we want to remain for the whole of the year. After an initial settling in session, the children have been put straight to work; completing place value tasks in Maths; imaginative writing in English, beginning our new class text in guided reading and showing their atlas and mapping skills in geography. Without a doubt, you have impressed this week. Keep going everyone; an out of this world start!
