Catholic Education Week

This week we celebrated the gift of Catholic Education - and we saw a lot of blue on Thursday! Congratulations to our OLA Kinders as they were selected as the elementary winner in the GrACE Art Contest which was presented at Mass last Sunday! Big thanks also to our dedicated EICS Trustee, Mrs. Justine Wright, for taking the time to stop in and read a story with Mrs. Oikonen's Grade 2 class - she had a busy day, managing to visit all 4 of our Fort Saskatchewan Catholic Schools on Thursday. Please visit our school website to learn more about Catholic Education here in Alberta and around the world.

OLA Fine Arts Evening for Valeda House - May 21

Please join us for OLA's First Ever Fine Arts Evening fundraiser on Tuesday May 21, 2019 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. We will be celebrating the artistic talents of our school community while also supporting Catholic Social Services: Valeda House!

A little bit about the evening

The evening will begin at 6:00 with an open gallery walk of art work created by our OLA students. Guests are invited to peruse the art work and visit our gift shop (because every art gallery has one!) any time between 6-6:45 p.m. At this time, our attention will turn to our choir and handbells who have prepared a short performance for you to enjoy!

A little bit about Valeda House

Elk Island Catholic Schools is committed this year to supporting Valeda House, a safe and secure temporary shelter for homeless women and children. Schools throughout the district are hosting a variety of events to support this fundraising initiative and OLA Catholic School would like to do their part by including a fundraising component to our Fine Arts Evening! There are a few ways that our families can help support this worthy cause during the evening:

  1. A silver collection plate will be available for those that wish to make a donation when they come to walk through the gallery
  2. Our Grade 4 Servant Leadership Faith Squad and Citizenship Squad have been creating artwork to sell at the gift shop - please stop in!
  3. The Kinder Kids have created an art piece to auction off at the end of the evening. Tickets will only be 3 for $1, so bring your loonies!

Please mark your calendars and come out to support our students and the women and children of Valeda House! We look forward to spending the evening with you!

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast

As a gesture of appreciation to ALL of our volunteers, we welcome you to a breakfast in the library beginning at 8:00am on Tuesday May 21, 2019. Stay and connect with fellow volunteers and please join us at 9:00am for our Faith Assembly and a special presentation by our Choir and Handbells teams.

Lending a Hand at OLA

Over 300 books a week are borrowed from the library and brought back every week! And these books need to find their way back to the shelves for other children to borrow. It's a great problem to have when children look forward to reading!!

Are you finding that you have some time to give? Mrs. Wagner, OLA's librarian would love help re-shelving books in the library! If you have half an hour of time, any day, please connect with her, she can be reached at susanw@eics.ab.ca. Even if it's a drop in, or more regular volunteering, your help is always welcome and appreciated!
