Rolling Hills Elementary
Weekly Newsletter - May 22, 2020
Hello RHE families!
I can’t believe Memorial Day weekend is here already. Although not the circumstances we all hope for, I hope that you all are able to enjoy the long weekend. Everyone should take some much needed time away from a "screen" and enjoy other activities.
I would like to officially congratulate Mrs. Toni Coletta, one of our recess teachers, on her retirement. Mrs. Coletta was honored at the school board meeting last night for her twenty five years of service to the District and to our students! Congrats to Mrs. Coletta! It is well deserved! Please see below for additional information
Last night, the school board also voted to appoint Mr. Bob Francis as the new principal of Newtown Elementary School. Mr. Francis has been a teacher at RHE for fifteen years. Most recently, Mr. Francis has been the Gifted Support teacher. Although we will miss Mr. Francis and all that he has done for the students and staff of RHE, his is sure to have a great impact within the Newtown Elementary Community!
Lastly, online registration for Kindergarten & new K-6 students is open for the 2020-21 school year. Our class sizes for next year are based on incoming registrations (and current enrollment numbers) on record prior to June 1st. Therefore, it is important that families register now. Newly registered students are not guaranteed a space at RHE after June 1st if a particular grade level is full.
Sincerely,
Sam

RHE Businesses
Hello RHE families! We hope this finds you well and hanging in there during this challenging time. The Home and School Association is appreciative of all that RHE families have done to support us over the years. We know that the current environment has been difficult for all of us, some more than others. Many of our families own local businesses, and we wanted to reach out to see if we could help out in some small way by advertising on our FB page and Newsletter. If you would like us to feature you business, please send a graphic and blurb with the information you would like us to use.
You can send you information to Jen Keaveney ( spozio@comcast.net) or Catherine Griffin ( cathgriffin11@gmail.com)

Growth and Development Information for Students - Grades 4-6
As part of the yearly health curriculum, 4th , 5th, and 6th grade students receive instruction on human growth and development. As part of our distance learning we would like to extend this opportunity to your homes during this time. The link to the letter below contains links to videos that we encourage you to view with your child, as he/she would have done with the Physical Education teacher and School Nurse in the classroom. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your children, but they are of great importance to our children’s health. If you prefer that your child does not receive this instruction please disregard this letter. Additional resources are provided in the letter below.
Counselor's Corner - Dr. Sandberg
Each week, Dr. Sandberg is posting daily activities to help your child’s social and emotional growth. You can find the link on her website, but below is direct access for this upcoming week. Many of the activities can be used as a creative break or even as activities to help when your child says s/he is bored.
Student Wellness - Fridays
In order to help promote student wellness, the district is providing optional activities for all grade levels that can be completed individually or with families on Fridays. The activities address the physical health, mental health, and social connectedness of our students. Please click the following link for this week’s student wellness activities: https://www.smore.com/sbxz5.
Additionally, parents/students are still asked to complete the attendance form each day including Fridays. The form can be found here: RHE Form.
