Art Lesson
Underwater Sculptures Inspired by Dale Chihuly
In this week’s art lesson we are going to make a sculptural artwork. A sculpture is something that is three dimensional (3-D) and can be viewed from all sides. A sculpture can also have a flat base, with elements that “pop up” to create the idea that it is 3-D. This is called a relief sculpture.
First, watch the video introducing Dale Chihuly’s artwork.
Next, watch the video demonstration all the way through.
Gather your supplies, listed below
Watch the demo video again and pause/rewatch to work on each step at your own pace.
Any questions about the project? Email Miss Lake: jlake@cvschools.org or YOUR art teacher. We would be happy to help!
Here’s a list of materials you will need for this project:
1. A plastic bottle of your choice
Water, soda... anything clear and plastic!
2. Craft paint and brush
Tempera or acrylic will work
If you don’t have paint, colored markers should look great as well (Permanent markers like sharpies will work best)
3. Paper plate or cardboard
Find an empty cereal box, pasta box or a piece of paper to use for adding details.
4. Scissors
Xacto/craft blade is optional but helpful for cutting a hole in the bottle
5. Glue or tape
6. Colored markers, pencils, crayons
Any extra details can be added with materials of your choice!
