From the Principal's Desk

We are welcoming 2 new staff members over the next couple of weeks. Ms. Susan Forester has joined our kindergarten team--she began with us last Wednesday. Ms. Amanda Brinkley will be joining our 1st grade team starting on February 21st. You may know both their names as they are both parents of students at our school. Please join me in giving them a “Gator Welcome” to our school. I know they both will do awesome things for our kids.

Mr. Mitch Stensland, our current interim Assistant Principal (AP), will be leaving us starting on

January 24th as he transfers to Pittsboro ES to serve as their interim principal. We have secured a new interim AP for our school who will start on the same date--Ms. Nanette Lavery. Ms. Lavery has been in education for more than 30 years serving as an elementary teacher, central office administrator, and principal. Ms. Lavery is now retired and during her retirement she has served as both an interim assistant principal and principal in Wake County. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Lavery to our Gator Family.

We continue to have instructional assistant (IA) openings at our school. Please help us by sharing these opportunities for anyone who may be interested. Also know that anyone hired as an instructional assistant at this point may not be required to drive a school bus. Please have anyone interested reach out to me and I’ll do my best to provide the details.

Schedule for Next Week

Reminder: Students do not have school Monday 1/17, Tuesday 1/18 and Wednesday 1/19. Monday is a Holiday, Tuesday and Wednesday are Teacher Work Days.

Camp Invention

Don't forget to register your child for Camp Invention here at Chatham Grove Elementary!!! The dates of camp will be June 13-17, 8am-4pm. If there are snow makeup days at the end of the year for students that interfere with these dates, then we will push camp to June 14-18 or June 20-23. We are hoping this will not be the case and can move forward as planned with June 13-17.

Camp is for rising Kindergarten-rising 6th grade students. We need middle school, high school, and college students to work as Leaders in Training (middle school age) and Leadership Interns (high school and college age). We are also looking for a few parent volunteers to help with lunch and managing the supply room. Please note that all parent volunteers will need to fill out Chatham County's volunteer form. Let me know if you are interested!

Our next discount codes are available! Is your child a Camp Invention alumni? Have they attended Camp Invention before? Register your child before February 16th using the discount code: SUM35 for $35 off the registration fee. If this is your first time camping with Camp Invention, use the discount code: EXPLORE25 for $25 off the registration fee now until March 31st. You don't want to miss these discounts!

From PE

Happy New Year Gators!

Our first week back was a success and we were glad to see everyone back happy and healthy.

We’ve started our gymnastics unit and our young Gators are rolling and moving around learning new skills and increasing strength, balance and flexibility.

We would like to remind everyone to please ensure your children are wearing appropriate clothes that do not restrict movements, eg. jeans. Also shoes that are meant for running during their PE classes. Secure closed toes are the best option, please no boots or crocs. We really appreciate your help, thank you!

Each week, we will be highlighting some of our K-5 students for receiving a shout-out from someone in the school community. We are so proud of these students for exemplifying CHOMPS expectations throughout the school! Below are the shout-outs for the week of November 15th. Great job, gators!
