Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Among the many prominent figures are:
Madam C.J. Walker, who was the first U.S. woman to become a self-made millionaire.
George Washington Carver, who derived nearly 300 products from the peanut.
Rosa Parks, who sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and galvanized the civil rights movement.
Shirley Chisholm, who was the first African American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
We will continue to honor African American Contributions at the beginning of 3rd Period!

This past Monday our Equity Council Title IX Coordinator, Elizabeth Francis, presented to all classes on the topic of Title IX and how to report suspected Title IX discrimination. Please see the Title IX Presentation so you can see what was discussed.
How to report discrimination:
Our school community is committed to providing a safe educational environment where all members of our community are treated with respect. As we continue to work on creating more inclusive spaces of belonging, we want to make sure our students and families know about and have access to the BVSD discrimination reporting form. The form can also be accessed under the "Help for Students" tab located at the top banner on every BVSD webpage.
Completed forms are submitted directly to the District's Equity Compliance Officer who then connects with the reporting party and works to make sure appropriate next steps are taken.
If you have any questions about the form or making a report, please contact Elizabeth Francis
Equity Counsel/Title IX Coordinator, Boulder Valley School District at 720.561.8091 or elizabeth.francis@bvsd.org.

23-24 BOULDER TEC APPLICATION IS LIVE
10th and 11th Grade Students and Families-The Boulder TEC 2023-2024 application window is now OPEN. You can access the application here or on the Boulder TEC website.

I’ve recently had a lot of parents ask me about their kids taking classes at CU Boulder. Historically, most Monarch students who take classes at CU do so because they’ve surpassed Monarch course offerings in advanced math or advanced World Languages. But you don’t have to have surpassed Monarch offerings to take a class at CU! Any Monarch student can do it.
The caveat is that, unlike with concurrent enrollment courses, you do have to pay. But BVSD will pay the community college rate, so you end up getting a nearly $500 discount off a nearly $1,500 course.
If you think you might be interested, start here. There’s a link in there to see the whole CU course catalog, and there’s another link to see a list of guaranteed transfer courses which are courses that are guaranteed to transfer anywhere within the state of Colorado except Colorado College. Then you can click on the “Sign Up for Courses” tab and follow the five steps.
Please let me know how I can help you.
