Elephant in the Garden
By: Michael Morpurgo
Lizzie and her family are forced to flee her city, Dresden, because of the war going on. Everyone says that her city will be bombed soon but no one knows when it will actually happen. But of course the rumor became a reality and Dresden was bombed. Lizzie's mother worked for the city's zoo and wanted to save her most admired animal. The Elephant. So Lizzie and her new family left her now ruined city in hope to find somewhere safe and away from the war. Lizzie's mother knew of a place where they would be safe and led them to her parents farm only to find the house empty and the barn door broken down. Lizzie and her brother went to explore the barn and found a solider from the war in the barn! At first they did not trust the solider, Peter, but they soon learned to trust him. Peter was forced into the war to fight and did not want to fight. He put himself at risk to help this family because he loved Lizzie. He took them to safety and gained their trust. They all went to a safe place or did they? You will have to read the book to find out what happened!
I would recommend this book to people who want to read adventure books. It is a true story so that mad it even better! I couldn't put it down and it was a page turner. If you like to read books that are adventure and cliff hangers I would recommend this book to you!
