Student Vision and Hearing screenings have begun with Nurse Lasher. Maryland Regulations require all Public Schools to complete Hearing and Vision screenings on all 1st Grade students and the year that a student enters a public school system for the first time. You will be notified when your student is screened and of their results.
Students who were new to SMCPS last year and were not screened for hearing and vision because of School Closure due to COVID -19 will be screened this year.
Virtual students who do not return to in-person this school year, should plan to be screened next school year.

COVID -19 Protocol
If your child is attending in-person and does not come to school because they have been Quarantined for a COVID-Like illness/exposure or test positive for COVID-19 please notify the SMCPS COVID support team at 301-475-5511 ex 32256 or email covid19support@smcps.org Someone from the team will reach out and guide you on next steps.

If your child is returning for in-person learning please have a "Quick pick up plan", with your family, if your child needs to go home sick. If your child is sick and must be picked up, they must be picked up within 30 minutes of being notified.
Should I send my child to school? What are the symptoms of a Covid-Like illness?
COVID-19-Like Illness Symptoms
If a student goes to the nurse for at least one (1) of these symptoms, parents will be called and need to be picked up within 30 minutes : (students with pre-existing conditions will be assessed for their specific concerns first)
Cough
Shortness of Breath
Difficulty breathing
New Loss of taste or smell
If a student goes to the nurse for at least two (2) of these symptoms, parents will be called and need to be picked up within 30 minutes:
Fever of 100.0 or higher
Chills or shaking chills
Muscle Aches
Headache
Sore Throat
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
Fatigue
Congestion or running nose
Example: Student goes to the nurse with sore throat and headache, student sent home for Covid-like illness.
