Inside the Idea Lab
On October 29 in Idea Lab we celebrated National Cat Day with a cat read-aloud story, cat books on display for checkout, and cat-themed building activities. We also continued with our Halloween-themed activities as well. Our story of the day was If You Give a Cat a Cupcake by Laura Numeroff and it was very popular with all grades, as are all of Laura Numeroff’s books (she wrote If You Give a Mouse a Cookie). Students chose to create with Legos, Plus-Plus blocks, foam blocks, or art supplies.
In fifth grade, all students were offered the opportunity to sign up for Fifth Grade Library Book Club. This is a new activity that will take place during lunch recess every few weeks with Mrs. Stephens in the library. Our books are Advance Reader Copies donated by the publishers and distributed by Cuyahoga County Public Library, so all students received their books free of charge. Twelve of our nineteen fifth-graders signed up! Our first book selection is The World Ends in April by Stacy McAnulty. The students have received their books and we will have our first meeting next week!
Parents, please help your students remember to keep their library books in their hands or in their bags at all times. Many students still say they can’t remember which day their books are due, but if their books are always in their backpacks or book bags, they will always be turned in on time. Thank you, and happy reading!
It's Cold Weather Time Again!
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to participate in outdoor recess (i.e., coat, hat, gloves, boots, snow pants, etc.). As stated in the handbook: All students are expected to go outside unless the temperature is below 20 degrees or the wind chill is below 10 degrees. Generally, if a child is able to ride the bus and attend school, (s)he should also be able to outside at recess. The only exceptions are: a physician’s request, a written parent request for the day the child returns to school following an illness, or a request by the teacher or Principal.
We have a limited amount of clothing for students to change into shoud they get wet or muddy outside, so please consider sending in an extra set of clothing for their children.
Coats for Kids
We are once again kicking off our Coats for Kids drive as we head into the winter season. This drive has always raised an abundance of much-needed items for those in need. There are collection boxes at the school’s main office for donations of winter gear.
Coats for Kids accepts all of the following (new or gently worn):
- Winter Coats
- Hates, Gloves, Scarfs
- Snow/Ski Pants
The collection drive lasts from October-December, 2019. Thank you in advance for your generosity. We appreciate your support!
