Reminder: Parent/Guardian Emergency Contact
As you may know, earlier this week our school had a medical emergency on-site that required a number of first responder vehicles on campus. While events such as this are always a challenge, they also provide a chance to review the ways in which we communicate with you during emergencies. As a reminder, please note the following:
Whenever there is an emergency involving a single student, such as an injury or illness, we will always contact that student's parents/guardians/emergency contacts directly. We may additionally call 911 for medical situations requiring an ambulance response to ensure that immediate care is provided to students when needed.
If there is a significant presence of first responders on campus but no school-wide emergency or safety threat (such as with a medical situation), we will also send out a school-wide notification, as quickly as is practical, so that you are aware of the reason for the first responder presence. This will occur once the parents/guardians of any impacted student have already been notified. If you receive this type of notification but did not receive a direct call/voicemail from our staff, please do not call the school office. These alerts are informational only, and having multiple calls come in to our office at once can actually impact our ability to help the injured or ill student/staff.
In the event of a school-wide emergency or safety concern, district emergency communications protocols will be implemented. For more information on district emergency protocols, please visit our website here.
Additionally, if the phone number(s) for you or any of your child's emergency contacts have changed since the start of the school year, we encourage you to contact our office at 503-825-5400 to update your child's emergency contact information.
Dual Language Immersion
The Sherwood School District is excited to continue our Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Program in the Fall of 2023. We will be in our fourth year of the program having a class in 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and an incoming Kindergarten class for the Fall of 2023 . A Dual Language Immersion Program has the goal of promoting bilingualism, bi-literacy, and socio-cultural competence.
Applications are now open for a new DLI Kindergarten class, with a balance of Native English and Spanish speakers. There may be few slots open in our first grade class as well. If you applied last year, you will remain on the waiting list and do not need to re-apply.
Please click HERE for information and the DLI application.
