Helllloooooooo Ruby Stars!
I hope you had a wonderful January! It was pretty magical at Ruby Bridges, I have to say. We really enjoyed having all of our new families coming to visit… we had our 2019-20 TK and Kinder families come for an information night and to tour the school throughout the month. The fabulous Kristin Furuichi-Fong, Title 1 teacher extraordinaire, organized our Student Council students to lead the tours. The parents were surprised to find out that the tours would be led by students, and later, universally impressed at the end of the tours by our student council students’ poise, maturity, kindness and thoughtfulness. To our incoming families, we are REALLY excited to have you join our family!
February begins Black History month. We will looking at the contributions of African Americans to our country throughout the month. Please join us, if you are able, at our culminating event - Cultural Voices assembly. We hold this on February 27th at 9am for our whole school. It is a special event!
Check out the Alphabet Rockers link down in the schedule of upcoming events. They are amazing! Grammy nominated for Best Children’s Album, they tour the country to inspire youth through the power of hip hop. They will have already come by the time you get this newsletter, and I am sure will have rocked the house and motivated us all to do better.
Please also see that auditions for Ruby’s Got Talent are coming up in two weeks on Wed, the 13th at 1:30. Look for papers to come home along with this newsletter.
This electronic newsletter has a number of flyers for summer programs, athletic leagues, etc below. They may be of interest to you and your family.
Last, I want to send out an appeal to families to join us for at least ONE of the parent events this February. First, we have our PTA meeting on February 6th. We will be hearing from at least one teacher on the power of Toolbox Social Emotional Learning program, and hearing how you can learn more and support your own children at home using some of this language. We will also be approving a change to the budget to hopefully provide $10,000 to our library for new awesome books! See the link in the online newsletter for a survey to give some feedback on how we should spend this new money!
Another meeting is on Feb 26th at our Title 1 annual meeting. Come learn what the Title 1 program is, and then participate in up to two breakout sessions led by our staff on informative topics! Last, many of you are already participating in School Smarts, the parent engagement and education classes offered at Ruby. Good job!

Donations for families
1. We are still collecting for our Coast Guard families. Please drop off non perishable goods in our main office and we will make sure to get them in the hands of our Coast Guard families.
2. We are starting a more permanent pantry for needy families. This pantry will be run by our Student Council, and was their idea! We are happy to facilitate our kids being generous and helping the less fortunate members of our community. More to come on this...
