Welcome to the Washington Middle School Library Media Center! Students are encouraged to visit the library media center to read, check out materials, study, work on school projects, or just hang out.

All About WMS Library Media Center!

The WMS Library Media Center is open from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm every day. Students are welcome to come to the library before school to check out or return books, work on school projects, gather with friends, or just to read!

Seventh grade students will come to the library every two weeks with their language arts classes. During this time, they can check out books and I will present a lesson or book talk to them. Eighth grade students will visit the library every three weeks with their language arts classes to do the same. On the days there are no classes scheduled, students are welcome to visit the library at any time. It is my goal to make the library media center a familiar and welcome place for all students at WMS!

Students can check out up to three items from the library. Items are due back to the library within two weeks but can be renewed if necessary. There are no late fees assigned but if a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, a bill will be sent home with the student.

WMS 2016 Summer Reading Challege

We will be having a Summer Reading Challenge at WMS. Students are encouraged to read 1,500 pages and complete a short activity about one of the books they read. The due date is Friday, September 2nd. Students who meet this challenge will be invited to a reward party in the fall. More information can be found on the library's website under the "2016 Summer Reading" tab.

WMS Book Club

There is a book club at WMS! It is open to anyone who wants to join. Our meetings will take place after school from 3:30 to 4:30 in the library. We will meet once a month on a Tuesday. More information will be shared with students when they visit the library with their Language Arts classes.

The Library Media Specialist

My name is Valerie Jankowski and I am finishing up my third year as the library media specialist at WMS. Prior to WMS, I was the library media specialist at Clearview Elementary and Fifth Street Elementary for 6 years.

I am married and have two children. I grew up in Union and live in the area. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master's degree in Library Science, and a Specialist's degree in Educational Technology. I love to read and talk about reading! One of my goals is to foster the love of reading and research in the students of WMS.
