Electronics and Toy Policy

In the last few weeks, many students have brought electronics and toys to school. Often times, these items end up lost, stolen, or broken and cause distractions in the classrooms. Please help us keep expensive items safe by not allowing children to bring them into school. These items include ipads, gaming devices, and toys (bayblades, action figures, etc.). Students are allowed to bring phones to school, but they must be turned off during the day and stored in the child's backpack. Phones may not come out of the backpacks until the student has left the building at the end of the day. Thank you for your help in keeping these items at home.

Full Day Pre Kindergarten in 2020-2021

Conroe ISD will be expanding all current half-day prekindergarten programs to full day in the 2020-21 school year. Currently, Houser and Houston Elementary Schools are the only campuses to operate full-day prekindergarten programs. The expansion is in response to the House Bill 3 requirement that all prekindergarten programs operate as full-day programs. Registration for the 2020-21 school year will take place April 20-24. Eligibility determination and enrollment will occur at the elementary school to which the student is zoned. Please visit www.conroeisd.net/ci/early-childhood/ for more information.

Library News

During the month of February, the library will once again begin sending automated email notices regarding overdue library books. Each notice will include the title of any book that is currently overdue as well as the book's replacement price. There is never a fine or fee of any type if a book is found and returned to the library. If a library book does need to be replaced, please contact Mrs. Puller at kpuller@conroeisd.net to find out about replacement options.

The library is still in need of parent volunteers to check out books, return books to the shelf, and help with special projects. The morning volunteer shift is from 8:20-10:50. This shift works with 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. The afternoon volunteer shift is from 1:20-3:00. This shift works with Kindergarten and 3rd grade. Volunteering in the library is a great way to help kids, meet other parents, and get connected to our school. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the CISD volunteer application at https://apps.conroeisd.net/volunteer/ and email Mrs. Puller at kpuller@conroeisd.net.

It is a great time to remind everyone:

  • If your child is running a temperature 100° or greater, or has obvious symptoms, he or she needs to remain out of school.
  • Even if a student’s temperature can be lowered to below 100° with a fever-reducing medication such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol, the student still needs to stay home.
  • A student may return to school when fever-free for 24 hours without a fever-reducing medication.
  • Encourage your child to use good handwashing techniques and wash often.
  • Our teachers are working hard to disinfect common areas in their classrooms when a student is diagnosed with the flu, so a big thanks to them.

Notifying the school nurse is extremely helpful especially for observing patterns or symptoms in a classroom, so please let Nurse Carol Skorupski know if your child tests positive for the flu. As a student recovers from the flu and returns to school, the nurse will be aware and better able to observe the student for symptoms which may not be resolved.
