Cedar Grove Friday Flash
February 9, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
The media specialist at Damascus High School (DHS), Ms. Ward, shared a wonderful presentation last night to families in the DHS cluster. Her presentation provided families with some helpful information regarding creating a culture of literacy at home. If you did not have a chance to attend this presentation, we hope you will take a few moments to review what was shared using the link above.

Reminder - Chromebooks for Home Use
We know that there is the possibility that MCPS will move to virtual learning should we have additional closures due to snow. If this occurs, it is important for children to have a device from which they can access learning on those days. If you do not have a device at home, this is the time to order one from our central office, as Cedar Grove will not be sending devices home. Please complete the Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families to request a home use Chromebook. It takes some time to get the home use device sent to Cedar Grove to distribute to your children, so please consider that when you decide to request a home use device.
Grade Level Newsletters
Parents, please click on your child's grade level to view class weekly newsletters. Any questions regarding the content of the newsletters should be directed to your child's teacher. Thank you.
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
As we come to the end of our second week in February, please review the February 2024 Media Monthly! As always, it's full of lesson information, links to our monthly celebrations, including Black History Month, as well as updates for Book Club and Morning News, not to mention The Music Cafe! Please bookmark it so that you have everything you need in one tidy place. We are also very happy about our successful collaboration with the PTA – the readathon was a huge accomplishment that involved many people. But above all I want to thank Mrs. Lorey, who counted minutes, kept track of everyone's results, and updated our readathon bulletin board – not to mention the time Mrs. Lorey spent getting businesses to support our event. We are celebrating reading every day, but the readathon is a moment in the year when we can encourage every student to enjoy reading!
Speaking of reading – our March Book Madness read alouds are ready for our students to enjoy! Even though the first ballot won't open until the end of February, your young readers might want to get started on these amazing stories!
