3rd Grade News - Durbin Elementary

Mr. Noel's Class

Parent Homework

It's that time again for families and parents to write a positive note to your 3rd grader! I think it would be great for each child to have at least 2 notes of encouragement before the ISTEP Math beginning Thursday, April 23 & the second note before the ISTEP ELA beginning on Thursday, April 30. Feel free to send more than 2 notes as there are technically 9 different days where we will be ISTEP testing. You can send the notes together or separately just have them marked as "Parent Homework" so I can give to your student before we test! Thank you in advance for working on your notes.

HW This Week

1) Online Math Practice (DUE Wednesday) - please have students work through at least 2 math sessions either Monday and/or Tuesday night at home. I would like students to send me a screenshot of their testing results or an email to tell me their results on their online math practice tests.

Here is the link to the ISTEP Practice Website, the math sessions are listed on the left-hand side of the page. Pick 2 math sessions under 3rd grade math.

ISTEP Practice Website

The two sessions are the only mandatory homework for the week, but below are some additional options if your child would like to practice more math or run through some ELA practice tests. The more exposure your child gets to these types of online tests, the better they will do on ISTEP!

How do I prepare for ISTEP Math?

*My #1 recommendation is to go back to the ISTEP Practice Website. Take as many online practice math tests as your time allows. There are 5 practice tests in 3rd grade, and if you want a challenge then try some of the 4th grade math practice tests.

*My #2 recommendation would be to work on the Khan Academy and earn energy points. Khan Academy exposes children to all different types of math problems which helps with test prep, it's fun to earn energy points, and you can climb the standings in our weekly and all-time classroom leader boards!!!

*My #3 recommendation would be to practice math tests on this Teacher Created Website.

How do I prepare for ISTEP Reading and English/Language Arts?

*My #1 recommendation would be to check out the right hand column for ELA practice on the ISTEP Practice Website. As I mentioned for math, you can work your way through the 3rd grade ELA tests and then for more of a challenge try out the 4th ELA tests.

*My #2 recommendation would be to log-into your IXL account and work your way through the 3rd and 4th grade skills and exercises.

*My #3 recommendation would be to practice ELA tests on a Teacher Created Website.
