September is National Suicide Prevention Month
Suicide Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, “It’s okay to talk about suicide. This campaign is aimed at building awareness of suicide and removing the fear and stigma people have when it comes to speaking about suicide. Staff will be participating in training for Youth Mental Health and First Aid and many are already trained along with other opportunities.
Visit EGUSD and read about wellness and suicide prevention for more information.
WELLNESS and Self-Care and Support
We want everyone to be well so here are some resources that may help.
Struggling students? Reporting incidents or concerns
- connect with the family and document interventions in synergy
- submit an MTSS form for students of concern
- refer students in "drama" or in "need" to conflict mediation
- seek help by connecting with counselors or admin as needed
Students can self refer to conflict mediation as well. See Ramie Gallagher for more details.
Remind students of our Anonymous Incident Reporting system on our website. It allows for anonymous reporting of bullying, self harm, violence, harassment and more. If the person allows us, we can also communicate two way to get additional details while they still remain anonymous if they choose.
Important Items for Mustang Success
COVID
Daily to protocols:
- Wear Masks indoors - mandatory regardless of vaccination status
- Hand wash and sanitize often - entrance/exit of rooms
- Sit in your assigned seating charts/group charts and call if you will be absent.
- Do not come to school if you have symptoms - staff contact admin and students/families contact the school for admin to then follow protocols directed by nurses in contact with the county and health authorities
- Recommended wear masks in large groups outdoors - our lunch and passing periods for example
- Social distance whenever possible
- Don't share food/drink
- RESPECT the TRAIL and follow all protocols and remind others to as well.
No food/money/package drop offs please
Let's teach our Mustangs to prepare ahead to not have a need to drop off forgotten items
*COVID and food from anyone = possible health concern
*food delivery from outside organizations has not been allowed due to risks involved
*staff can never accept money and we don't want to put our staff at risk for being liable for money that didn't make it to the student
*we do not have hired staff to run the "dropped off items" to your student nor to keep track of the items
*we want to teach responsibility too for their future
AND, meals are free on campus to all students this year. There is no need to purchase food on a day someone forgot their lunch for instance. We will make sure they get food so don't worry.
So what can you do to help?
Please help your student pack up the night before school so that all supplies are ready and located where they will not forget them on the way to school.
Make a list and have it available to check of each night before they go to sleep.
It seems students never forget their phones - put all important items with the phone - seriously it will work.
Emergency Contacts or Ed Rights holders
If an emergency contact shows up to meet up with a student or have the student leave with him/her, we will need permission and ask them to have the parent/guardian contact us.
In the event of an emergency, we use emergency contacts when we cannot get in touch with the parent/guardian/ed rights holder to have them help us find the parent/guardian/ed rights holder.
If you need the emergency contact to do more than that, we will need you to speak with an administrator or contact the school to see how we can help you further.
