Early Release 2/17 & 2/18 - Parent/Teacher Conferences
Dear Parents,
Early Release conferences are fast approaching. Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, February 17th and Thursday, February 18th. All instruction for digital students will end at 12:15 on these two days. Please be sure to note these important schedule changes.
We are offering both an in person format as well as a digital format for this year’s conferences. The purpose of a parent-teacher conference is to discuss student achievement and progress. Each parent-teacher conference will last for a period of fifteen minutes to allow for cleaning in between appointments. Both parents are urged to attend. Please be prompt as these conferences are scheduled consecutively. If a situation arises and you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please notify the teacher so the conference can be rescheduled.
To schedule your conferences this year, simply go to our school’s conference site https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Dyer_Elementary_School_3 and click on your teacher’s name. The schedule will open on Friday, January 29th at 4:00pm. There you will be able to see your teachers’ schedules and sign up for a time that best suits you. The ability to sign up for a conference online will close on Friday, February 12th at 3:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to sign up after the close of online scheduling.
We look forward to seeing you during conference week.
Sincerely,
Sally Armstrong
Assistant Principal
February PAWS Raffles
We think the work that our students and staff put in each day is "On Target", in fact it's downright PAWSOME!!! As you know, students and staff earn PAWS points for exhibiting great behavior. They can then use their points to purchase items on their PAWS prize carts or redeem them for digital rewards. In addition to these prizes, we will be holding raffles for a $25 Target gift card every Friday during the month of February! There will be two raffles each week, one for students and one for staff. The cost is 1 point per entry and you can enter as many times as you like. We hope our Bears know how proud we are of the hard work they put in every day!
Don't forget, parents can give staff PAWS points too! If there is a Dyer staff member that you would like to recognize, send them a Shout Out! Please fill out this form to acknowledge and individual or group. Mr. DiFilippo will share your shout out at our weekly faculty meeting, and give that staff member/group a PAWS point. Don't know the name of who you want to acknowledge? That's okay, each question is set up for a short answer response, instead of typing their name, you can type a description, (i.e. ladies that work in car- rider line each morning).
Robotics Clinic 20-21
Parents:
Dyer is thrilled to announce we are expanding our Robotics teams for the 2021-22 school year! We will continue our Challenge Team for 4th/5th grade students, but we will begin an Explore Team for 2nd/3rd grade students. With that being said, if your student is interested in joining either of Dyer’s Brick Breakers Robotics Teams, we are hosting robotics clinics in February. These clinics will introduce the students to:
First Lego League’s Core Values
Robot Design Principles
Innovative Project Creation
The Robot Game and Missions
Algorithm Development for our Spike Prime (4th/5th) and WeDO 2.0 (2nd/3rd) robots.
Please understand that attending a clinic does NOT guarantee your student a place on the team, but the clinic will serve as a tryout. Attendance is strongly recommended for students who want to be part of this program. The 21-22 practice schedules have yet to be set, but teams generally practice 2 days a week after school. We do not know what next year will look like, but the traditional season runs from August to roughly February. You do NOT need your own robot or any prior coding or robotics experience to participate. Clinics are open to all students- digital and in person learners. Please fill out the survey attached at the bottom of this form if your student is interested in attending one of our clinics. Space is limited.
Clinic Schedule:

AKS at HOME
As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS at Home project provides math and language arts resources to support families so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that fits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information at a time that best fits their schedule, or gain tips and suggestions on how to best help their students through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics.

Dyer PTO Needs You!
This year has presented us with many new challenges but we remain committed to supporting all of our Bears whether they be digital or in-person learners. While most of our in-person events have been cancelled, we are working hard to find ways to keep all of our students connected. And of course, we are always looking for opportunities to work alongside our amazing teachers, and provide financial support to the school.
Parents, in order for our PTO to be successful in reaching these goals, WE NEED YOU! If you have it on your heart to help by donating your time and/or talents, please let us know by completing this electronic form! We can tailor volunteer opportunities to play to your strengths and work with your schedule. Plus, we have a lot of FUN, even from a distance!
Dyer Parent Shout Outs!
Birthday Wishes in Big Lights!
