A Note from Ms. Alexander
We continue to move forward at Broad Street in preparation for September 8 and 9, the first days of the 2020-2021 school year. As you know things are constantly changing as scientists and medical professionals learn more about the virus, so to ensure you have the most accurate information regarding the district's Health and Safety Plan, please reference the on-line version which is linked below.
Also included below are updates to information I shared last week in the Broad Street Phased Reopening Document. Your child's safety is a priority so if you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out. Together we will make this school year a GREAT experience for your child.

UPDATES to the Broad Street Phased Reopening Plan
Student Remote Day Expectations
The amount of time students will engage in activities on the remote learning days will vary by grade level. The academic expectations should grow for students as the year progresses as students will obtain skills in working away-from-school. as independent learners. Ultimately, a maximum approximate goal to consider would be an hour for ELA activities, an hour for Math activities and an hour for other activities.
Teachers will provide students with planned learning experiences that focus on extending learning from face-to-face time, previewing upcoming concepts, practicing skills, and assessing student learning. Students will engage with their teachers in the scheduled Wednesday synchronous class (or group) meeting. Also, teachers and students will meet for individual synchronous check-ins as scheduled by the teacher.
In addition to the planned learning experiences from their core content teachers, students will engage in any number of other activities (as assigned) including: activities from fine and applied arts teachers, group sessions with school counselors, lessons with
related service providers, special education support, additional reading intervention, ELD support, and Gifted enrichment.
MASD Face Mask Guideline Reminder & Update
Based on the PA Dept of Education’s updated interpretation of the Governor’s mask order, and in continued consultation with our local doctor panel, the information below reflects our current guidelines related to face masks in school.
All students, staff, and visitors are required to wear face masks. This includes while inside and outside MASD buildings and on MASD transportation. Staff will provide face mask breaks to students throughout the day. Staff will allow students to remove face masks:
1. When students are eating or drinking and spaced at least 6 feet apart; or
2. When wearing a face mask creates an unsafe condition in which to operate equipment or execute a task; or
3. During staff-initiated “face mask breaks” to last no longer than 10 minutes and when students are at least 6 feet apart
Exceptions from wearing any type of face covering (face masks or face shields) require a doctor’s note and agreement from a 504 or IEP team. As a reminder, if you believe your child qualifies for a face mask exception, you must contact Mrs. DeWitt at edewitt@mbgsd.org, our school nurse, ASAP but no later than September 2nd.
Safety Protocols
New...New...New...Take Home Meals
Students can choose Take Home Meals for the days they are learning away from school. For example:
students attending in person on
Monday, can pick up meals at the end of the day to take home for Tuesday & Wednesdays remote instruction days.
Please discuss this option with your student as students will order these in the morning from their classroom teacher.
Meals will be charged based on
students eligibility of free, reduced or paid meals
Arrival and Dismissal at Broad Street
Due to construction, arrival and dismissal will be a bit different this year at Broad Street. All students will enter and exit the building through the doors located by the cafe-gymnasium. The map at THIS link outlines Traffic Flow Details.
Students may arrive between 7:30 - 7:50 AM, and will report directly to their classrooms.
Breakfast will be available to students who wish to eat.
There should be no congregating of students prior to doors opening at 7:30 AM as there is not adult supervision provided.
