PIAA advises diligence in following Gov. Wolf’s mitigation efforts after winter sports season temporarily suspended

The PIAA is advising its member schools and athletes to follow the mitigation efforts of the governor following the temporary suspension of winter sports.

In a statement released Friday afternoon by the PIAA, the governing body for high school sports in the state said that it hoped the temporary suspension would “assist in flattening the curve and reducing the number of cases statewide,” and that “we all collectively must be diligent in following mitigation efforts in order for a successful return to the season.”

Meet the Mid-Penn’s top uncommitted college football prospects as signing day nears

Brock Welsh

School: Middletown

Position: G

HT/WT: 6-3, 250

The Welsh File: Welsh is a strong, mauler up front who isn’t afraid to get physical. He played tackle for Middletown but should be a next-level guard. Added value here: he has a whole highlight reel of him long-snapping.

Sports Recruiters announces nominations opening for the eleventh annual Mr. Pennsylvania Football awards program

Greetings, PA High School Football Fans! There have been many outstanding team and individual performances thus far across the state. Now it is time to start nominating the best football players in the Keystone state! SportsRecruiters.com has announced they will sponsor the eleventh annual Mr. Pennsylvania football awards program after the immense success of previous years. Nominations for the 2020 Mr. PA Football Awards will open on December 4, 2020. A student-athlete must have participated in the 2020 football season in order to be eligible for a 2020 Mr. PA Football Nomination. The nominations deadline is set for January 8, 2021, but subject to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mr. PA Football Awards will be presented in March to the best high school football players in Pennsylvania. There will be two awards presented; one for the Small School Mr. Football which will consist of class 1A, 2A, and 3A players, and one for the Big School Mr. Football which will consist of class 4A, 5A, and 6A players. The players will be chosen by football fans, sportswriters/ sportscasters, and coaches from around the state. Fans will be able to nominate and vote for their favorite players, and the media panel from major media markets as well as coaches from across the state will be nominating and voting for the outstanding players. The fans, the media, and the coaches will each represent 1/3 of the vote.

Again, new classifications have been established by the PIAA in 2016 and as a result Mr. PA Football will continue to classify the Small School Award as 1A-3A, and the Big School Award as 4A-6A. Also, in addition to the Mr. PA Football Award this year, there will again be a separate category of nominations for the Mr. PA Football Lineman Awards. The nomination list for the Lineman Awards will be acquired from the nominations for Mr. PA Football. The Lineman Awards will use the same classifications as Mr. PA Football. The voting for each round and the winners will be chosen by a selection panel. The selection panel is comprised of media members as well as coaches. The Mr. PA Football Lineman Award winners will be announced on February 21, 2021.

Middletown Teammates of the Week

Week of November 29, 2020

Mason Dudash, Junior High Boys Basketball, 8th – Perseverance
“Mason came out for the team last year as a 7th grader, and unfortunately didn't make the team. Instead of being upset about it, he used it as motivation to get better, worked on his game, and came out this year and had one of the best overall tryouts easily making this year's team. We look for him to have a successful year, and continuing to persevere throughout the season.” ~ Coach Vaughn

Each week, Student-Athletes, Coaches and Faculty can nominate someone they feel is a great teammate for the past week.

The week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday at midnight. The list will be collected Monday of the next week and published to all the coaches and faculty members at Middletown area High School each Tuesday.
What makes a good teammate? Multiple reasons!

Here is a great quote by Kobe Bryant that can help sum it up:
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot."

The Blue Raiders instill the following leadership qualities P,R,I,D,E. When nominating a fellow Blue Raider, please list one of these qualities in your description.

P-erseverance, R-espect, I-ntegrity, D-iscipline, E-xcellence
