FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE

To be razor-sharp and laser-focused in our teaching of expectations to our students, this year, Norton Creek staff frequently teach and remind our Eagles that the three most important things they can be are: Kind, Respectful, and Problem-Solvers. We remind them that when we are kind, respectful, and problem-solvers it keeps everyone safe. We also want to encourage them to be kind, respectful, and problem-solvers at home too, and you can feel free to join in the fun too.

When our children are kind at home this means that the words they use with parents and guardians, brothers and sisters, and friends around the neighborhood build them up. Being respectful means respecting personal space, belongings, and surroundings. We can teach our kids to make their beds, put dishes away, take out the garbage, feed the family pet, and more to build that sense of respect for others in addition to reminding them to say please, thank you, and wait their turns.

Problem-solving gets a bit trickier to teach because it can be so closely tied to their ages. Certainly, we would not expect a kindergartner to have the same problem-solving capacity and independence of a fifth grader. However, as we give our Eagles increasing amounts of independence over time starting with the basics in kindergarten such as allowing them to practice their own personal hygiene, buttoning up coats, pulling up zippers, and other basic self-care tasks, we see students who are confident enough in their abilities to do more for themselves as they get older.

To close this week, I would like to thank our amazing PTO for putting on a fabulous Popsicles in the Park. Thank you to all of our families and staff who came, and I hope you had a great time! Heading into Labor Day weekend, I hope you have a wonderful, fun, restful weekend! As a reminder, elementary students will be dismissed at 11:40 to enjoy a nice, long weekend.

5TH GRADE CHOIR! Sign up by September 20th

Dear Families of 5th Grade Students!

We are thrilled to announce that this year, D303 will continue to provide a 5th Grade Choir Program for ALL Elementary Schools! This program will run in a similar fashion as the current Elementary Band and Orchestra Programs with a weekly before-school rehearsal, but will NOT conflict with current band and orchestra rehearsals.

This program will run from September through May, with our first meeting being Friday, September 20th!

Choir will be meeting on Friday mornings at NORTON CREEK from

7:25 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Parents/guardians are responsible for dropping their student at Norton Creek by 7:25 a.m. D303 Transportation will provide buses to transport students back to their home schools after rehearsal!

Performances are TBD as the year unfolds.

The goal of this program is to offer a formal choral music opportunity to our young students and to enrich their musical experience while preparing for middle and high school vocal music possibilities. We will work on ensemble practice, team building, vocal technique, vocal health, unison and part-singing, all through a rich variety of vocal music repertoire. I look forward to this adventure and hope your student will be a part of this wonderful experience!

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate emailing me!
