NEW NEWSLETTER CONTENT (brand new or updated information). . .
Social Worker Referrals. . .
We have several Social Workers at JCMS. Dana Obermeyer and Julie Glasgow work primarily with general education students. Please do not send students to see them unless they are already on their caseload and have approval to see them on an as needed/crisis basis. If you have a student you feel needs referred for a screening by a Social Worker, please give their name to your Counselor and/or grade level Admin during team meeting, along with any data or guidance that will assist the Behavior Intervention Team with determining if a screening is necessary. If there is a student you feel needs to talk to someone, the first step should be our Guidance Counselors (Michael Frint and Chez McClellan).
Christy Beamer and Cassandra Myskiw are our current special education Social Workers. If you have a Special Education student who you feel may need Social Work services/evaluation, then share that with their special education case manager during your Team meeting. A meeting of the special education team can be held to determine any data that may need collected or if an evaluation needs to be completed. Evaluating or considering these services is always a Team decision regardless of whether the student receives special education services or not. The Team is comprised of a variety of staff who know the student and understand their needs (not just the interdisciplinary Team the student is assigned to).

Opportunity to Host an Early Field Experience or Block Student from KSU. . .
Greetings!
We hope you had a great break and start to the new year! As we prepare for a new school year, we are hoping that your teachers would like to serve as a cooperating teacher for our various field experiences. Our professional blocks before student teaching are a critical time for our students to become invested in the profession. Their strong experiences in your districts carry with them as they plan for student teaching and beyond.
We are excited about our students returning to your buildings, but we also understand that COVID-19 has changed the landscape of our schools. Please let me know the protocols that our students need to follow in your schools. If your district requires any additional information for placement, please let me know and I will ensure they provide it.
Would you be willing to pass along the following request link to your teachers?
https://kstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6fLIzOleesEocWq
The request link in this email covers these experiences. The hour/time requirements are listed in the survey:
- Early Field Experience: Begins week of 9/27; Ends 12/10
- Elementary Block C: Begins week of 10/18; Ends 11/18
- Secondary Block 2: Dates vary by content
We ask that teachers complete this form by September 7th-- we will start making placements the following week and notifying students.
Thank you for your help! Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
