Returning Student Registration

Returning student registration for the 2023-24 school year opens at 9 a.m. on February 1. That morning, the Division will send a SchoolMessenger email and phone call to all current PALS to Grade 11 families letting them know the Returning Student Registration Form is available and the deadline to complete it is February 28. The Division will send reminder emails to all those who haven’t yet completed the form on February 13 and February 21. Schools are welcome to use these messages as templates for any of your own reminders you’d like to send to families on any other dates in February. The more families who complete the online form in February, the fewer schools will need to follow up with by phone in early March. Refer to the Registration 2023-24: Process and Timelines on StaffConnect for additional information and links to all messages going out throughout the registration process.

High School Information Nights

To help you make an informed decision about high school, senior high schools throughout Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) are hosting information sessions for all Grade 9 students and their families. The sessions allow students and families to meet the staff; tour the school; learn about the curriculum, course offerings and alternative programming available; discuss diploma requirements and various career paths; plus, more. Decisions about whether each event will take place virtually or in-person will be made closer to each date. Refer to the event calendar on each school website for details in the coming weeks. Make sure to take part to learn everything you need to know about the Division’s senior high programs and courses.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH PRESENTATION

The Overture with the Arts will be presenting their 2023 Black History Month Presentation for us again this year. This presentation will be held on February 17 for grade 7's and March 17 for grades 8 & 9s.

This year's grade 7 presentation is titled "Tracking Black Canada", which will take participants around the country while focusing on the often-forgotten histories of early Black communities in Canada. Using OWTA’s trademark edutainment style that combines video, slam poetry, stand-up comedy, and audience participation & interaction, "Tracking Black" Canada will highlight the contributions and achievements made by prominent residents in these forgotten communities, illuminate the conditions that led to their systemic demise, and highlight how their impact is still felt today.

The grade 8 & 9 presentation is “Unpacking the N-Word”, which will explore the origins and evolution of the N-Word. Through an edutainment style that combines slam poetry, video content, audience participation & Interaction, participants will learn to put one of the most loaded words in the English language into proper historical context.
