Ms. Mojica ~ 1st Grade
I am excited about becoming a Buccaneer! A little about me: In 1999, I received my BA from Ripon College (WI) in French and Spanish. I then moved to Boston to begin work as an Americorps*VISTA volunteer with ReadBoston in Boston Public Schools. It was through that that I realized how much I missed working with children, so in 2002, I moved to begin my M.Ed at Loyola University-Chicago. In 2004, I began teaching with Chicago Public Schools, teaching 2nd and 3rd grades.
After the birth of my sweet daughter in 2009, I decided it was time to move closer to my Oma (grandmother) in NC -- so my family and I traveled to NC, fell in love with Wake County, and made the move in 2012. I joined WCPSS that year, teaching Spanish K-3, but mostly 1st grade. I enjoy reading, exploring NC, and spending time with my lively children (on 01/01/15, we added our energetic son to our family!). I look forward to learning with your children, exploring the world and deepening the love of reading -- as well as working with you to ensure a wonderful school year for your child!
Ms. Rhodes ~ Guidance Counselor
My name is Susan Rhodes and I am excited to help students and parents navigate the seas as the school counselor at Buckhorn Creek. After graduating with a B.S degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina University in 1990, I taught 3rd and 4th grades at Morrisville Elementary School. In 2001, I obtained my Master’s degree in School Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill (although I am a huge Duke fan) and in 2008 I received my National Board Certification in counseling. I always enjoy new challenges and recently taught ESL students in middle school!
My husband is also a teacher in Wake County. We both grew up in North Carolina and enjoy exploring the mountains and beaches with our 3 sons and watching them play all sorts of sports (especially baseball)! I look forward to a wonderful year at Buckhorn Creek.
Ms. Ramirez ~ Instructional Assistant
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Ramirez. I am a Raleigh native and I graduated from NCSU in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interpersonal Communication.
I have worked with children most of my life. I was a YMCA Youth Director from 1998-2004 where I received valuable training and experience leading staff and children. Many years later I am still connected to the YMCA as I love to teach swim lessons to preschool children and adults over the summer.
I began working at Dillard Drive Elementary in 2016 as a Teacher Assistant for kindergarten and first grade. I love to work with kids and enjoy helping them learn and grow, both educationally and as an individual.
My husband and I are having a great time raising our two sons! I love watching my kids grow! I was fortunate to be a stay at home mom for 7 years. We spend a lot of time together as a family on and off the soccer field. When we are not on the field, we cook, play games, do a bunch of chores and walk the dogs. We love to vacation in the mountains or the beach.
In my spare time I love YOGA, swimming, being outside and reading devotions.
I am so excited to be serving in this community and I am very excited to be a part of the Buckhorn staff!
