Math and Science
Math-We are working on multiplication for the next few weeks. Students should be studying their math facts at home. We will be completing weekly facts tests at the end of every week. This week students practiced their facts 1-4. Next week we will test on facts 5-8. The week after we will be working on facts 9-10. The week after we will focus on facts 11-12. We will continue with timed tests throughout this year. While students will receive nightly homework to help them with the current facts that we are working on in class, they do have the opportunity to take a previous fact test until the pass (20/25 correct) so keep studying!
Science- We are working on electricity and magnetism in science. We HOPE to test on October 18th.
NOTES: Students are able to correct any papers that they receive a 50% or less on. This includes homework and there is a note for them to correct and return. Many students have NOT taken advantage of this and their grades are low because of it. Please contact me if you are worried that your student does not make corrections when they could. I keep track!
Also: If students get their study guides (math AND science) signed by an adult showing that they ACTUALLY studied, then they will receive bonus points on their tests.
Specials
Ms. Schreiner's class has PE on Wednesday.
Reading and Social Studies
Our next unit is all about nonfiction. We will study the special text features of nonfiction, do some textmapping, and begin reading a lot of nonfiction articles, magazines, and books. This reading unit will tie into our Social Studies unit of explorers though time.
The students have done a great job with their first book project assignment. Some students really went above and beyond which made the presentations very enjoyable! The next book project will be a nonfiction biography project. This will be assigned in early November.
Notes from the teacher
The Computer Lab is open Monday-Friday from 8:00-8:30 for student use. Students need to be in the lab before 8:10 to get a seat. During this time, they can do Fastt Math, VMath, Ticket to Read, or take an AR test. This would be a great way for the students to start their day!
All parents are invited to attend the PTO meeting on October 17th at 6:00 pm in the library. During this meeting, they will be discussing the school-wide Title 1 program and would love to have parents participate. Information in Spanish will also be available during this meeting. This is also the night that student of the month nominees will be recognized.
Have a wonderful Fall Break! See you on Tuesday!
