December 2022 Newsletter
A message from the principal, Miss Remillard
Winter is here at George Washington School (GWS) so we must be prepared for snow days! In order to relay information about school closings and delays as quickly as possible, we post on the local news stations and provide phone calls, text messages and emails through our School Messenger system. If you are not receiving these messages, please call Ms. Cooney. We also follow Averill Park School District for school closings or delays related to weather.
Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Skill of the Month for November was “Managing Emotions.” Students and staff from Mr. Miron's classroom created their very own video "When Alygiah Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry" (adapted from the book When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry by Molly Bang) to demonstrate this skill! The link to the video is provided below!
This past month we celebrated Veteran's Day. Mrs. Hunter's class took the lead with creating a video to honor our Veterans! Please check out the video below!
We had a blast running our fun GW Turkey Trot! Picture and video are included below below! We enjoyed our famous GW Thanksgiving Feast and received Thanksgiving dinners from the Capital Region Basket Brigade!
This month we will focus on "Making Good Choices." Below is a link for parents to assist with promoting this skill. There is also a link with ideas for holiday activities at home! We have many fun events planned for the holiday season. Please see the events below and keep a look out for our Holiday Spirit Week flyer!
GW Literacy Corner - Tips for Parents!
“Share the Pen” Writing with Your Child: "Shared writing" gives young children the chance to do some writing while you fill in the rest. This is how it works: Decide together with your child what to write and then you "share the pen" as you write. You can tackle the unknown parts and let your child write the letters/words they can tackle. You can then read what you wrote, invite your child to read it, or read it together. Try creating a daily schedule, poem or a list of outdoor activities to do together.

Parent Tips for Managing Emotions
Making Healthy Choices
Making a decision, sticking with it, and communicating the response effectively can be difficult for kids, particularly those who tend to be shy. Making a decision that may seem unpopular can even be hard for adults at times. This is especially true when making decisions about underage drinking.
