MANIC MATH MANIPULATIVES 4 - 5: So….You’ve been given these math manipulatives, now what? Come see how to embed your new tools into a daily lesson. Your session will be directly related to your grade level and standards. You will participate in a hands-on lesson and walk away with an activity that you can use for a current or upcoming unit. Is there a manipulative you aren’t sure how to use, or would like to learn how to use in a different way? Let us know; we will help find activities tied to your standards using these new tools.

ENHANCE YOUR CLASS WITH ANIMOTO: Looking to enhance students' Web 2.0 competencies and build 21st-century skills? The Animoto tool allows anyone to create professional-looking projects using audio, photographs and video. Participants will learn:

MONART: Join us for a hands on training focused on the philosophy of Mona Brook's Drawing with Children Program, (Monart). The workshop will demonstrate a lesson and give a variety of ideas and samples for future lessons that teachers can do with their students. Through lesson development, calming techniques, practice of shapes, following directions, the students will create masterpieces they are proud of. The workshop will also provide ideas helpful tips on how to use social media and grant campaigns to purchase materials.

SOCIAL THINKING 101: This is a presentation of Michelle Garcia Winner's "Social Thinking" program. The focus will be on implementation of "Social Thinking" vocabulary and concepts in the classroom/school setting. *Mandatory for LVCS Para Educators.

DIGITAL FEEDBACK & ASSESSMENTS: This workshop will feature digital apps and resources that can help teachers (both veteran and new) in managing and assessing digital student work. The workshop will provide examples that demonstrate how such apps and resources can be used all subject disciplines. The workshop will be interactive so please bring a laptop or tablet.

ELD BOOTCAMP: The ELD Training Team will share K-12 teaching strategies that will add depth and engagement to your ELA lessons. In this workshop teachers will learn new strategies designed to support students in achieving the Common Core ELA Standards. The workshop will use short video clips and hands on activities to demonstrate techniques that are so easy, teachers can use them in their classes the next day.

MAGIC OF QR CODES IN THE CLASSROOM: Watch your students engage in their own learning and become highly motivated. Come learn what QR codes are, how to use them to captivate anyone involved in your classroom, and how to make your own for immediate use.

THINKING MATHEMATICALLY WITH THE REKENREK: Come find out how the rekenrek can help develop number sense, how it can be used during math talks and how it supports CCSS for K-1.

TIER 1 CLASSROOM INTERVENTIONS: The focus of this workshop is to discuss speech/language RtI Tier 1 classroom interventions and accommodations by reviewing:
-developmental speech/language milestones
-relationship between communication and learning
-instructional strategies (scaffolding)
-classroom accommodations/modifications
Teachers will be provided with samples of specific Tier 1 classroom activities. They will also be presented with scenarios and will be asked to provide examples of types of accommodations/modifications/strategies they would use to support their students.

ED TECH TOOLS TO SCAFFOLD INSTRUCTION FOR ALL LEARNERS: Join us for an interactive session designed to share exciting tech tools to scaffold instruction. Bring your laptop! We will be letting you explore along with us!

CLASS DOJO & GO NOODLE: We will be introducing the basics of ClassDOJO and how it can be used in both primary and upper elementary classrooms. We will be showing the benefits of Class DOJO and how it benefits students, teachers, and parents through positive communication. In addition, we will be presenting info. On GoNoodle and how it's a helpful tool to provide brain breaks and positive, fun class incentives.

QUIZZIZZ & PERISCOPE: Open new doors and take your students out of the classroom and out into the world to explore. Periscope is an easy and extremely valuable resource for your toolkit as 21st century educators. The session will focus on how to maximize teaching time using online formative assessments with Quizzizz and help teachers get started using Periscope.

FINDING VOICE: USING WORKSHOP STRATEGIES TO DRIVE STUDENT CENTERED WRITING: This workshop will include an overview of the "workshop" model for teaching writing and introduce strategies for teaching writing in a student-centered classroom. During a general lesson outline, participants will explore the "Units of Study for Teaching Writing" to understand the process of workshop style teaching and gain some experience with planning mini-lessons. After a basic discussion of workshop teaching, participants will hear specific strategies to implement during writer's workshop sessions, including conferencing techniques, mid workshop teaching points, and effectively using anchor charts.

PROJECT GLAD:
This session will focus on how to use GLAD strategies to promote academic language and cross cultural skills regardless of the student’s language background and ALL subject areas. GLAD is an existing instructional model that aims to help teachers by providing differentiated strategies to integrate instruction.

SURVIVING A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE: Do your students have the math skills to survive an apocalypse? Do YOU? Come find out in this interactive session where you'll learn how to create an immersive experience for students that will force them to use their math skills and problem solving to survive an apocalypse. The mathematical practices will be front and center as participants must band together and figure out how to survive when the world falls apart. You'll enjoy this experience as much as your students will! *LVCS MS teachers are required to attend.
