Beach Buddies' Bulletin
September 26-30, 2016
Hello K Families!
What a fun Homecoming week we had! Awesome participation in the dress up days-- thanks for your help in getting your child prepped for the day. Despite the excitement, we still had learning-filled days!
Homecoming Fun
Our own Emily won a prize at the Harlem Ambassadors program. We were proud Beach Buddies!
Writers' Workshop
We continue to stretch and write as many sounds as we can during our daily writing time. This week we will select one special story that we will FIX and FANCY in preparation for our first writing celebration.
Math Workshop
During math we have been noticing patterns in the 100's chart to help us count. We have also focused on "naming" patterns (ABB, ABC) and measuring.
Readers' Workshop
We learned about the importance of reading "just right" books. We are building our stamina by reading these books in our book baskets as well as picture books from our book center. We are noticing there are many different genres of books to read.
Other Kindergarten Learning...
Sharing time...we love learning more about each other and our thinking.
iPads are helping us share our learning and practice skills. On Friday, our book buddies helped us with a new app.
We have been spending more time with letter formation - both capital and lower case. We work hard to start our letters at the top.
Name Writing
Please help your child to always write his/her name with just one capital letter at the beginning and the rest lowercase. We call this "kindergarten style". Many kindergartners are still using all capital letters. I will send some practice sheets home soon. Thanks for your help!
CARES lesson
We continue to learn about ways to use our CARES values in school and at home. CARES stands for Cooperation, Assertion, Respect, Empathy, and Self Control.
Absences
If your child is absent from school, please be sure to call the AES front office @ 274.8218 to let us know. Thank you!
Artifacts
Thank you for collecting artifacts at home. Remember artifacts can be anything special that the kinders can glue into their "Life Book" and write about. This could be a picture, candy wrapper, ticket stub, picture from the newspaper, program from a play, magazine page, etc. Please send in your artifacts by the end of the week.
Razzle Dazzle
Thank you for being AWESOME at-home readers! Remember to reach your 10 book goal! You can do it! Please return your latest tally sheet this Monday.
Shoe Tying
If you are sending your child to school in tie shoes, thanks for your support in practicing shoe tying at home. Here is another video that may be helpful!
Home Links
Sometimes you will find math or literacy "home links" in your child's folder on Fridays. These sheets do not need to be returned. Use as you see fit. Many kids have begged me for homework!! Hopefully this love for homework continues through the years!! If you would like more, just let me know.
On the Road Reader
On Monday, your kindergartner will be bringing home his/her first book packet borrowed from our classroom. Look for a letter explaining this program in Monday's folder. Please work hard to read these books at home and return your packet on a regular basis so new books can be sent home. I understand you may not get to them every night, but try to make a habit out of returning the packet a few times per week to get new books. Thanks for supporting your young reader!
Pastries for Parents
Remember, Friday is Pastries for Parents. Join us for breakfast and classroom time from 7:30-8:30. This is an all school event.
