Severe weather approaching Sunnyvale

The Town is closely monitoring the threat of severe weather that may impact our area this afternoon. The forecast calls for large hail and tornadoes may be possible. NOOA has issued a tornado watch until 9 p.m. tonight. Thunderstorms are expected to develop between 2-4 p.m. This line will pose a high threat of damaging winds with the possibility of a few tornadoes as it moves east through late evening. There will also be a threat for flash flooding.

Please be aware that outdoor emergency sirens may be activated in case of a severe threat. These sirens are primarily meant to be heard if you are outside, not inside. Please do not wait for us to activate the sirens to take shelter. You can stay updated by registering for

Littering: it's against the law

The Town has seen an increased amount of litter on our roadways. Littering is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500. If you observe someone littering:

1). Please take down their license plate number, make and color of vehicle, date and time, location, who tossed the litter (driver/passenger), what was tossed and report it to Chief of Police Andrew Hawkes so that appropriate action can be taken.
You can reach Chief Hawkes at

2.) Visit…/report-a-litterer/

TxDOT compares the information through the Department of Motor Vehicles registration database, and when an exact match is located, they send the litterer a Don’t Mess with Texas litterbag along with a letter reminding them to keep their trash off Texas roads. (Source:
