A Message from the Principal
I hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy during these trying times. We miss our students so much: in the classrooms, hallways, on the athletic fields, in their performances, in the lunch room, and in everything else that makes schools so much of a heartbeat for our community.
Next week is Spring Break. I know many of us will miss our cancelled plans, but I hope our teachers and staff can take a well-deserved break and that you can enjoy the time with your family. Our teachers have been working very hard to push review and enrichment material out to students as well as to prepare for new instruction that will start on Tuesday, April 14.
I have attached the MPCS Continuous Learning Plan below. Please read carefully as there is important information included. Beginning on April 14, students will be asked to start to complete what remains of their course work for this Semester. The majority of this new instruction will take place on Apex, an easy to use online learning platform. Most of our current courses have corresponding courses in Apex. Teachers have worked hard this week to select the remaining three modules which include materials, competencies, and standards that still need to be taught for what is left of each of their courses. I have attached an Apex welcome letter to parents below. On the morning of April 14, students will be emailed log-in information for Apex and a tutorial on how to use the program. Teachers will also be supporting students as they work through the remainder of their coursework on Apex.
If a high school course does not have a corresponding Apex course, teachers will continue to use Canvas and present new instruction and the remaining three modules via this online platform. I have attached Canvas instructions for parents below. Teachers will let their students know if their course is using Apex and/or Canvas. Some of our elective courses are using a mix of both Apex and Canvas.
Teachers will continue to host two office hours per day to assist students with any support they need. They will post their weekly hours in Canvas each week. If you would like to see your child's most up to date grade as of 3/13/20, please log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
If your child needs any IT support, please send an email to it.support@mpark.net.
I hope that this letter provides an overview of our continuity of learning and instructional plan from April 14 on. We look forward to working with your children to help them complete their courses for what has been an unprecedented 2019-2020 school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Please be safe and be well,
Mrs. Pam Kalso
