Best Practices 2017
What do we as educators view as the current best practices in classrooms? Having a 1:1 environment and navigating the seemingly endless amount of tech resources can sometimes be overwhelming. The purpose of this workshop is to focus on some things that we all feel we do well and some things that we all see as needs in our individual, school, and district practices. It is designed to be a forum for discussion and collaboration, not a presentation or "workshop" format.
Project Based Learning- PBL
One of the trends in which personally I have seen increase over the past several years is the use of project-based learning (PBL). All of us our familiar with PBL and I know have probably been in some sort of in-service already dealing with this form of instruction. The goal today is to share out some of the positives and drawbacks about PBL, some examples of things we have used that maybe have worked and to discuss the benefits of this form of instruction as well as more traditional methods of delivering content. I have included some resources for some of the projects I have created and used in my own practice below for you to take a look at. By no means are they the end all and be all, I just wanted to begin the discussion with my own practices.
How do we keep students inspired?
What are we doing now that works and works well? What do we need to work on?
What do we need to help support our goals as a staff to improve our practice?
Questions for Discussion
- What do we feel the ideal classroom should look like instructionally?
- What does our average unit look like, introduction, activities, assessment?
- What does a "balanced classroom" look like?
- What works in your classroom and content the most and what doesn't work?
- How can we engage our students more?
- How can we inspire our students to be creative and direct their own learning?
- What supports do we need as faculty to better our practices?
