Principal Perspective - Health Education & Erin's Law
This week, during our staff meeting on Tuesday and early release collaboration time on Wednesday, our staff learned about our new health curriculum and Erin's Law. Erin's Law mandates that all students receive lessons on sexual abuse prevention each year. We will be sharing these new health standards and sexual abuse prevention lessons with students starting in January.
We will have materials available for parents to preview during fall conferences and you can learn more about the curriculum at the Erin's Law website. There will also be three districtwide parent nights where you can learn more information about the new health curriculum. Those are on October 15th, 18th and 24th. Details on those nights are available here.

Celebrate 60 -- Nov 2nd.
We need several volunteers to celebrate Ridgewood's 60 years.
- Create and run our photo booth - we are picturing a place where patrons can use their own phones to take pics with Ridgewood props - maybe have the mascot available.
- Guest book - create a guest book for the event and run a table for people to add memories, photos, etc. as a keepsake from the event.
- Welcome banner - create a welcome to Ridgewood banner to hang over our check in table.
- Dance decorations - hang student-made decorations in the gym Friday after school.
- Host a decade room - are you a Ridgewood alum yourself? We will have a room for each decade, where we will lay out photos, and would like to have a host for each room.
- If you are interested in helping with Celebrate 60, please contact Principal Cary Meier (cary_meier@beaverton.k12.or.us) or Parent Volunteer Michelle Hebden (mch9206@gmail.com).

BEA Phone-a-thon
The Twentieth Annual Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon is coming soon, October 9 - 17, 2018. This annual dialing tradition provides critical funds that support innovative educational programs for students in the Beaverton community. During the five-fun-filled nights, more than 350 student volunteers make over 30,000 phone calls, dedicating their time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting BEF programs.
Last year, BEF funded 96 academic projects, serving over 22,000 Beaverton students in grades K-12. Through this funding from our supporters and community engagement, $279,000 was invested back into our schools. This year, in honor of BEF’s 30th anniversary supporting Beaverton students, our goal is to fund 130 projects impacting 30,000 students.
The Phone campaign and the associated mailings are the Foundations largest fundraising activity of the year. Funds raised are reinvested in a wide variety of after and summer school programs for students at all of Beaverton public schools. Please answer the call for our kids
TAG Testing
Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). If you think your child might qualify, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office. Completing this form gives our school TAG committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of its completion.
Oregon law and District policy define gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
The Parent Information Form must be completed and returned to our school’s TAG facilitator, or the school's office by Wednesday, October 31st.
Oct. 24 - CogAT testing - All 3rd and 5th graders (Intellect TAG screener):
