Starting a NEW Fifth Grade Tradition at the Nest!
What is the Fifth Grade Tunnel? At the end of each school year, our fifth grade eagles exit the building through the playground and exit English Landing for the buses, car rider lane or to walk home thorugh the school wide tunnel tat school dismissal.
This year we are going to have our Fifth Grade Tunnel start by the GYM exterior doors (on the playground) which will allow us to have room for fifth grade parents/families to join us.
Here is how this will work. If you would like to participate in the Fifth Grade Tunnel and you are a fifth grade parent/family member, then please park in the back parking lot (entering the parking lot by Lakeview Middle School Sign. Please arrive between 3:00pm and 3:10pm and go to the Picnic Table AREA to sign in and receive a Visitor Sticker. We are going to have Fifth Grade parents/families at the END of the tunnel by the fence that opens into the playground. Directly in front of the Fifth Grade parents/families will be each of our grade level students and our EL staff in chronological order with our oldest students, fourth grade, being located by the gym exterior doors and our youngest students, kindergarten, being located by the playground equipment area.
In following our English Landing tradition, our Fifth Grade Eagles walk through the tunnel first CELEBRATING. Once they have walked through the tunnel, then our Fourth Grade Eagles walk through the tunnel celebrating that now they are Fifth Grade Eagles. This is followed by our Third Grade Eagles celebrating that now they are Fourth Grade Eagles. We continue this with each grade level. At the end all of the teachers walk to the end of the bus loop and wave to the school buses as the buses leave.
It is a moment filled with much emotion.
Again, if you are a Fifth Grade Parent or Family Member and would like to attend, please arrive between 3:00pm and 3:10pm and go to the Picnic Table Area to sign in. Thank you!
Safety remains our TOP PRIORITY so it is critical to have you arrive early enough to sign in during this tunnel CELEBRATION. We are so hopeful this is a postive experience for all and are eager to include our families in this tradition. PLEASE help us keep this safe by arriving early and signing in before joining our tunnel. THANK YOU!
Fourth Quarter Report Cards: Infinite Campus Portal
We have piloted having students more involed in their Report Cards during the 2018-2019 school year and have more classrooms that will be sharing student videos with families reviewing learning progress from the fourth quarter.
If your child is a student in the following classrooms, you will be receiving a student video sharing learning highlights and one overall teacher comment regarding your child's performance. Report cards will continue to update families on specific learning accomplishments through sharing the following scores on fourth quarter curriculum topics: E-Exceeded the Academic Performance Level, M-Mastered the Academic Performance Level, P-P-Partially Understood the Academic Performance Level, N-Needed Support with the Academic Performance Level. We believe in not having report cards share any SURPRISES, so families would always be aware before their child receives a score causing concern.
These classrooms are including student videos for the fourth quarter:
- McGinley, Peeler, Scarlett, Thompson
- Jensen, Pudenz, Van Berkum
- Beck, DeMint, Pitts, Poarch
- Betts, Dwyer, Turnbull, Sanford
- O'Connor, Peters
Thank you for a WONDERFUL school year!
2019-2020 English Landing Staffing Updates
Kindergarten: Mrs. Dugan will not be returning to English Landing next year, Mrs. Hellbusch will be joining the newest PH Elementary School, Hopewell, as a Kindergarten teacher, and Mrs. Seymour is joining the LEAD Center returning to the secondary level where she started her teaching career.
Second Grade: Mrs. Willis will not be returning to English Landing next year and is taking a year leave of absence for the 2019-2020 school year.
Third Grade: Mrs. DeMint will be returning to English Landing next year as a half time Reading Interventionist. She will be working at English Landing with Mrs. Walker in the AM.
Fourth Grade: Mrs. Betts will not be returning to English Landing next year as she has been selected to be a Park Hill Math Instructional Coach. Mrs. Betts finished her masters' degree in Math and is eager to give her complete focus in this area. Mrs. Sanford is LOOPING with her class and will be a Fifth Grade teacher next year.
Specials: Mr. Codilla will be teaching art at Park Hill High School for Summer School and then plans to move at the end of the summer so he won't be returning to English Landing next year.
Support Staff: Mrs. Seely has resigned from Park Hill and will be working as a counselor in a charter school in KCMO where her own children will attend some day. (Mrs. Fullerton will work at English Landing full time.) Mrs. Davis will be working at Renner full time as their School Social Worker. Mrs. Chase will continue to work in the Gifted Program, but will be working at Chinn Elementary School. Chinn has not had a Gifted Program there in previous school years so having Mrs. Chase there will be helpful. Mrs. Burgess worked with our eagles during PowerBlocks and she has resigned from Park Hill and joined the Blue Valley School District which is close to her home. Mrs. Henn worked with our eagles during PowerBlocks too and we are hopeful we will have a spot for her next year, however, we won't know until the fall, 2019.
Dr. Todtfeld will be leaving English Landing as our Assistant Principal. He will continue working at Prairie Point Elementary School and will add working at Hawthorn Elementary School as their Assistant Principal during the 2019-2020 school year.
ONCE an EAGLE... ALWAYS an EAGLE!
We wish our eagles much success in their future endeavors!

Collecting 2018-2019 Student Badges on June 4, 2019
NEW Park Hill Requirement
We will be collecting all 2018-2019 student badges at the end of the school year. If your child is attending Summer School, then he/she needs to keep the 2018-2019 student badge for Summer School. At the conclusion of Summer School, the 2018-2019 student badge will be collected. Students may KEEP his/her red, SOAR lanyard, but the 2018-2019 student badge will be collected.
Here are some reasons for this decision:
- The old badges may appear to work on Zonar, our bus system, but they don’t actually associate the scan to the student. When a student scans with an old(deactivated) badge, Zonar accepts the scan on the bus. But on the back end, Zonar doesn’t correlate the scan to the student. It just shows up as a scan by a badge that is not associated to a student. Therefore, we are unable to track that student.
- On printers, old(deactivated) badges are not recognized and will not allow the student to connect and process their print jobs.
Thank you for helping us in this process.
