November 10

Parent/Teacher Conferences

It was great to talk with so many of you about your child's progress in first grade! Please feel free to contact me at any time for a follow up meeting or phone conference. Report cards will come home on November 24th and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have after reviewing it.

Coin Drives!

Bryant students raised $1,310.52 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society during the Pasta For Pennies drive! Our class was one of six that raised over $100, earning us a bronze pennant!

Hopefully there is still some spare change left in your cars and couches because our next coin drive starts this week! Student Council is sponsoring a collection to purchase turkey dinners for those in need this season. We will be collecting coins from November 11 to November 21.

Healthy Snack Sign-up

Students really enjoy having fruit and other healthy foods for snack. Thanks to those families who have already sent in some special snacks. Here is the link to our snack sign-up if you would like to send something in on a Wednesday or Friday.

Brrr!

Cold weather ahead for the end of the week. Please try to put names or initials in items like gloves and hats if at all possible.

Spirit Week 11/17 to 11/21

Student Council is encouraging students to join in the fun and participate in spirit week!

11/17 - Backwards Day (wear clothes backwards/inside out)

11/18 - Twin Day (find a friend to dress like you)

11/19 - Sports Team (wear your favorite team's clothing)

11/20 - Pajama Day (PJs at school!)

11/21 - School Spirit (wear your Bryant clothes or Tiger colors)

Close Reading - Flash, Crash, Rumble and Roll

This week we did a "close" reading of the informational book Flash, Crash, Rumble and Roll by Dr. Franklin M. Branley. I read the book aloud, stopping frequently to ask questions and encourage discussion about the contents. Later in the week we filled in a chart with facts about lightning and thunder and students wrote information they learned from the book. Did you know lightning bolts can stretch a mile or more? Ask your student, which comes first, thunder or lightning?
