We are still focusing on learning and showing gratitude here at Kirk Elementary. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted.
At home with your Mighty Tiger, take a moment to play the Gratitude Alphabet Game. Gratitude Alphabet Game. For each letter of the alphabet, think of something you are thankful for that corresponds to the letter (Gratitude A to Z).

TIgers!
This month 3rd-5th enjoyed exploring our catalog to look up books. 1st & 2nd grade learned more about our nonfiction section and how it is organized in numerical order. PreK & Kinder enjoyed listen to a story that had special sound affects. Then we danced Gobble Gobble Turkey Wobble.
Students will have their library books a little longer due the book fair. Please make sure to keep their books in a safe place. The week of 11/28-1/2 students will have the opprotunity to preview the book fair and create a wish list. The week of 1/5 - 1/9 students will have an opportunity to purchase books. Also, the book fair will be open during the Winter Wonderland event from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Primary Practices
It’s hard to believe December is almost here! The year is flying by! We are working hard in reading and math and growing as learners each day. Please remember to read with your child daily. Below are some questions you can ask them about the characters in the story.
Who is the main character/characters in the story?
What are some traits of the main character?
How did the main character change throughout the story?
Did the main character learn a lesson? What lesson did the character learn?

Adventures in Mathematics
Second graders have started a new unit focusing on data analysis. This includes various graphs such as bar graphs, pictographs, and frequency tables. Students are expected to read the data from the graph and solve problems using numbers from the data.
Third graders are learning about fractions. This year students are learning about halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths. For the first time, students are expected to compare fractions with different denominators and different numerators. This skill is best practiced using fraction towers. You can also build fractions using paper, making sure the pieces are equal.
Fourth grade is digging into relationship tables. In this unit, students will learn vocabulary such as input, output, position, and process. These words will help students see patterns in tables and discover the process to repeat them at any position in the table.
Fifth grade is wrapping up multiplying and dividing with decimals. This unit focuses on applying the skills of basic multiplication and division to numbers with decimals. Students can practice these skills with multi step word problems.
Science Scholars
Second grade is learning about sound energy. Instruments are great examples of sound because they show the vibrations that sound energy creates.
Third grade students are learning about soil and the various characteristics different soil have.
Fourth grade students are learning about electrical circuits and how electricity travels through them. They are practicing building open and closed circuits in class.
Fifth grade is learning about the water cycle and how the ocean and sun interact with it. They will soon be moving into differentiating between weather and climate.
