CRISIS CROUNSELOR

By Maddy Johnson

What Is Crisis Counseling?

In mental health terms, a crisis refers not to a traumatic event or experience, but to how an individual responds to the situation. The events that trigger this crisis can run the gamut of life experience, from developmental hurdles (such as going through puberty) to natural disasters to the death of a loved one. Crisis counseling can help individuals deal with the crisis by offering assistance and support.

Education

Counselors must earn a four-year undergraduate degree, and typically a master's degree, in order to begin their practice. A bachelor's degree in most fields is acceptable to enter the required master's level program afterward. If you did earn a bachelor in psychology or a related field, your studies will be a benefit when pursuing your master's degree.
