Math, Science, and Social Studies
*We have almost met our goal of all students completing their final accuracy check. We have a few students still working this week who are very close. Students who have met this goal will be working on Front Row-Geometry this week.
Science-We had a great week learning about character by reading Wonder. We will begin "Name That Shell" this week where students will classify shells based on different characteristics. We will also take some time each day to continue reading Wonder.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Grammar--We will focus this week on a review of correct capitalization. We will work in our flipbooks, as well as a hands on activity with sentence strips. We will review the capitalization that all 4th graders should be familiar with and will be held accountable for: names, months, holidays, first letter in a sentence, book titles, places, and the pronoun I.
Reading--We will continue meeting in our small groups with our book clubs. We will also continue our class read aloud, Sarah Plain and Tall. We will work on summaries and setting in relation to historical fiction texts. We will also use epic books to further our reading knowledge about our time periods. We will have a district-wide common assessment on Tuesday over reading comprehension.
Writing--We will be putting our opinion writing on hold for a bit while we switch to researching our historical time periods. We will be gather research, citing sources, and begin to look at creating a magazine about each time period using the non-fiction text structures we've learned about.
