Riverside Mission/Purpose Statement
The mission of Riverside Elementary is to provide a nurturing, enthusiastic, and safe environment that acknowledges individual differences, encourages community involvement, and emphasizes an ongoing commitment to academic excellence.
Message From Mr. Pope
Dear Parents,
Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in Gwinnett County and in our local community, Riverside will begin the school year digitally to ensure the safety of our students and staff. While this is not ideal, I assure you that Riverside teachers and support staff will provide the best digital experiences possible for your children, capitalizing on all we learned in the spring and incorporating new learning over the summer. Digital learning will have a very different "feel" as we begin the fall semester.
Students will be engaged from 8:15 to 2:45 each day. School days will begin with live morning meetings with homeroom friends, followed by live and prerecorded mini-lessons, small group support, independent practice, and multiple opportunities for building relationships and social-emotional skills.
Mark your calendar for Riverside's Open House and meet your teacher opportunities:
- Students in kindergarten & first grade: Aug. 6 & 7, in person by appointment.
- Students in grades 2-5 who are new to Riverside: Aug. 7, from 8:00 to 10:00, in person.
- Students in grades 2-5 who are returning to Riverside: Aug. 7, 1:00, digitally via Zoom.
We will provide eCLASS/Google Classroom in-person training sessions for parents of kindergarten and first grade students as well as parents of students new to Riverside. These sessions will take place Aug. 3-5 in small groups by appointment.
You will receive more details about Open House and training sessions in the coming days. Information for parents who need to check out a Chromebook will also be forthcoming. Riverside will be working with local daycare centers to help them become familiar with our digital program.
Know that we will work very hard to make the most of this temporary situation. Please do not hesitate to email me or call me directly at 678-482-1000 if you have any questions or would like more information about the upcoming school year. We are very grateful for your support and partnership in these unprecedented times.
Your principal,
Ben Pope
