The Rock Cycle
how rocks are formed
The rock cycle
as you can see, all rocks start off as newly formed igneous rocks. They then break down into sediments and are later cemented to form sedimentary rocks. Later, they change to metamorphic rock and are broken down into magma and then the cycle starts again when it becomes lava.
Rocks
Sedimentary rock
They are formed by the cementation of sediments. they are typically rough. An example is Sandstone.
Igneous rock
they are formed by the cooling of lava. They can be both smooth and rough. An example is pumice.
Metamorphic rock
They are formed when rocks are heated but not melted. They can be smooth. An example is marble.
