Conquering Fears!
Never giving up... teaching resiliency.
About mid-December Cami was thrown off the horse. Nothing too dramatic and no injuries. In fact, she got right back on the horse and rode. She rode all winter with no issues. She rode the horse she fell off of, she rode the horse that spooked her horse, she rode alone, she rode in groups, and she even showed in January... all with out any issues or fear.
Fast forward to March, she began to be fearful again and did not want to ride with other riders or horses. However, she still wanted to show. The day of the show her anxiety was real. She began to cry once she was on the horse. My heart broke for her... however some of the older girls at the barn were there to encourage her and kept her motivated. She did a GREAT job and I am so thankful for their caring hearts. They reminded her of the skills she had, that they were there to support her, distracted her with games and snacks, and cheered her on. She won 2nd place in the first event and 1st place in the second event. The girls were there to congratulate her and offer high fives immediately. It was the sweetest of moments. Her collection of ribbons is growing and this motivates her to continue. After the show we arranged some private lessons. This allowed her confidence to take hold once again. She trotted alone for several minutes and showed no fear. We are constantly praising her for working through this tough time and not giving up.
I share this story because I hope we can all be that for our students. I pray that we can come at them with the same love... the love that says " I want to help you but I also want to push you"... the same love that allows them to carry on even when they are afraid.
I hope we can finish the school year fostering relationships, being gentle with our words, offering comfort when needed but also offering encouragement to push them to continue independently.
We want this for our own kids. We have the unique opportunity to do this for others children and this is a huge blessing.
Let's finish strong, push through any fears, and not let each other give up.
Things to know...
* Please be sure to submit emergency sub plans, fill out the master schedule survey (everyone), and prepare your room for the final nine weeks!
* We will have a SPED teacher join us for the remainder of the year to provide support in a variety of ways. I know we will welcome Ms. Cooper with open arms and help her get familiar with the Burbank ways.
* No more 90 minute CLT's. We will now have regular resource every day. This allows more time for the last nine weeks in the classroom. However, we will still meet for 45 minute CLT meetings on Wednesday. This way we get to see everyone every week. We will be sure to email if this time is not needed.
Master Schedule Planning SY 19/20
Remember- I take all into consideration and attempt to balance your wishes with the needs of the school. We look to ensure the service providers- ERIA, Reading Specialist, SPED, etc... all have access to students at the right times.
Emergency Sub Plans
* Please update your emergency sub plans! This includes the rosters, emergency procedures, instructional activities, and contact information.
* Please provide a class list that shows how your class should be SPLIT in case a sub does not show up. Please take into consideration behavior and personalities. Submit these into the emergency sub plan folder.
