Update to the community from Supt. Hagenbuch
A Message from Mr. Anderson & Mrs. DeCamp
Starting week 2!
It is highly likely that your child's teacher has contacted you in some way over the last week either digitally, via phone call, or other means. We know that this connection is incredibly important as we have continue to move into the unchartered territory of staying safe, feeling secure, and keeping some semblance of "normalcy" in our lives. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, school counselor, or administration with any questions, or if you just need to say "hello" and know that, although apart, we are still working together!
Located in this parent update are several resources to help parents continue to challenge and access educational resources for your children. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it's okay, to be honest so are we! The most important thing you can do right now is to spend time with your child, tell them you love them, hug them, laugh with them!
As for education, if you can get them to engage in school work, iReady lessons, work given home last week, and a myriad of the other resources out there, awesome! Thank you! But if you're feeling that overwhelmed feeling, have your kids do this:
- Reading every day (independent or to them or via audiobook etc)
- Writing - Diary writing/daily journal, creative story writing, create a comic book, write directions for how to build their dream playhouse or favorite meal.
- Math - Practical hands on math. Be that via cooking, cleaning, outside or some math games physical or digital.
- Some fine motor work. Lego, cutting, playdough, tidying up small toys. Yes! Clean their rooms!
- Physical exercise everyday...Go outside, run, play, be a child!
- Some art/music where possible throughout the week. Doesn't need be planned, family dance party, sing songs together, draw pictures and paint!
- Projects! - Get them to independently work on a project is great for keeping brains ticking! Get them researching in a book or online and putting together something to present to you or family.
- PLAY! Imaginative free play, the more independent the better.
*If you haven't noticed, all of those things can be used to the advantage of the parent ;). Sneaky, but highly appropriate!
Overall, don't allow school expectations to cause stress in your home! A child needs love, understanding, and security before anything else. You are all doing an amazing job being there for you children in an incredibly stressful and difficult time. It's okay! We are blown away by how amazing you are!
With Faith, Love, and Hope.

Cuomo Orders NY "On Pause," Says Non-Essential Workers Stay Home
Governor Cuomo issued another announcement today providing more guidance regarding our response to the COVID-19 situation across New York State. You may also know that we have received additional information from the Steuben County Health Department that there are confirmed cases in Steuben County. Due to this information, only essential services will continue in the District. Until further notice, as of 4PM last Friday, essential services will include food service and distribution, maintenance, and other necessary District functions as determined by the supervisor of each group.
As has been stated from the onset of this emergency, information can change rapidly at any moment. We have, and will continue, to do our best to respond and share critical information in the timeliest manner possible.
A Closing Thought
We are hopeful that students will be able to come back to school following Spring Break, on Monday, April 13th. However, given how rapidly this situation has changed, that is not a certainty. We will keep you updated as more information become available or as April 13th approaches.
Thank you for your continued cooperation, understanding, flexibility and diligence. It is appreciated more than you may realize.
