Stanwood High School
Weekly Update for week of October 5th, 2020
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
More Groups On Campus
This past week our Assist, ILC (behavior program), and Transition (18-21 year old program) programs started back to school (four days a week). While we welcome more students on campus, it is important to note our safety guidelines to make the school a safe place for everyone.
We ask that all students and families wear a mask while on campus. Students must be screened by an adult staff member when entering any school building. This involves answering a few questions about COVID symptoms and also taking their temperature (contactless thermometer). Students who ride the bus are checked on the bus before getting out. Students who are dropped off are screened from the vehicle. Students who walk onto campus or drive to school are screened at the entrance to the school. We have specific safety plans in place for anyone who exhibits COVID like symptoms.
**If you can't wear a mask, we might ask you to wait outside while we assist you. If you do not feel well, please stay away from the campus and call or email us instead with your questions.
Safety plans have been put into place for every program that is back on campus. These plans were approved by the district safety committee. We have supplies, such as hand sanitizer and wipes, in the rooms we are using. Staff have access to face shields and gowns to provide extra safety support. The rooms and offices are sanitized daily after being used. We also have "one-way" arrows in buildings to limit the flow and contact with students and staff. Desks and tables have been spaced out in rooms to provide at least 6 feet between individuals.
We continue to monitor the county and state health department regulations/guidelines as well as those from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). We will adjust our personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures based on that information.
Are You Or Your Child Feeling Overwhelmed by Distance Learning?
Please reach out to SHS staff if you or your child fit this category. The first step we recommend is to have your child reach out to their teachers. Teacher contact information can be found on the Google Classrooms (in the weekly overview or under resources/tips in the Google Classroom). We also have a staff directory you can access for contact information - staff directory link. Teachers have dedicated office hours on Wednesdays. You can also send them an email.
Other suggestions:
Reach out to your child's counselor.
Set up a time management system/schedule.
Have your child work on assignments in the morning before Google Meets.
Your child can attend teacher office hours on Wednesdays to get help.
Send an email to teachers to set up a time to meet when struggling.
Have your child ask the teacher to stay on the Google Meet after class is over to get help.
Attend the virtual homework help through Davis Place.
If your child qualifies for McKinney Vento (homeless), or is a foster child or English Language Learner (EL), reach out to the counselor for additional on-campus support.
If your child is on an IEP (individual educational plan) or 504, please contact the case manager to set up a meeting. There are other supports in place, such as coming onto campus on Wednesdays for assistance.
If you do not have Internet services or have very "spotty" Internet, please contact your child's counselor. We can provide chrome books and get you on the list for a hot spot. If a hot spot will not work where you live, please let your child's counselor know so we can get your student support on campus.
