Home and School – Together We Can Make a Difference
Welcome to the Eastern Hills Pyramid newsletter. Twice per semester, we will provide you with updates and happenings at all of our eleven schools. We know the importance of communication in establishing a home and school partnership because together we can make a difference. Did you know that home and school partnerships provide students with more opportunities to learn and grow?
Benefits of School-Family Partnerships
When teachers and families partner together to support student achievement, students earn higher grades, attend school more regularly an enroll in higher level classes. This collaboration also fosters more motivation to maintain higher educational aims and lowers drop-out rates. Students with parents/guardians involved are more likely to:
Ways to Get Involved
- Attend back-to-school night or other school events. Get to know your child’s teachers in the beginning of the year. Attend school events throughout the year like parent-teacher conferences, games, awards, and concerts.
- Demonstrate a positive view of education. Parent-school involvement does not only occur inside schools. It is about communicating your values and attitudes about the importance of education. Share your hopes, dreams and expectations for your child and the role education plays in making them a reality.
- Encourage reading and learning. Helping your child develop a love for reading is the single most important thing you can do to help them succeed in school and in life. Help them stay organized, ask about daily assignments and monitor their work and grades. Start today, it is never too late!
- Let the school know what questions you have. Ask what groups, classes, or guidance you would like the school to provide. If you want to know about the Reading curriculum, about tests, or how to help your teen apply for college financial assistance; just ask. We are here to serve you.
Moving Forward
School involvement is a great way to build relationships with teachers and staff to help the school community grow to meet the needs of all students. Creating effective school-home partnerships takes time, commitment, willingness and trust. However, the effort is worth it; as the results are invaluable. All eleven schools in the Eastern Hills Pyramid are ready and willing to continue to build lasting family and school partnerships. Our students deserve the very best. Together we can and will make a difference!

Power Zero-Hour and High Impact Tutoring
We are working hard each day at Lowery Road to support student learning. During our Power Zero-Hour we utilize high quality curriculum to accelerate learning. Teachers provide small group instruction as well as technology-based programs to provide additional learning opportunities. We are also blessed to partner with HeyTutor this year. Ms. Paxton, our tutor, is on campus Monday - Friday to provide support for our Leopards.
At Meadowbrook Elementary, Students Are Our Priority
Meadowbrook Elementary is excited to provide accelerated instruction/tutoring to students in grades 4th and 5th. Our tutoring program is designed to provide accelerated instructional support before or after school to students who were unsuccessful on the 2022 STAAR Math or Reading assessment. Students who were unsuccessful on STAAR are required to attend tutoring on a weekly basis. The mandatory tutoring will address learning gaps and help students get back on track. Tutoring sessions will focus on missed concepts and skills that are most important to understanding previous and current classroom content. Our teaching staff will be utilizing high-quality instructional materials aligned to state standards and classwork. Parents can expect their child to receive small group (no more than 3 or 4 students) instruction for 90 minutes per week. The tutoring staff have scheduled sessions from 3:30-5:00PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please ensure that your child attends all tutoring sessions consistently. If you have any questions, reach out to your child’s teacher or call the school at 817-815-4900.

The required tutoring supports students with small group instruction to address learning gaps.
In addition, students are able to participate in after school tutoring with University Instructors and Meadowbrook Middle teachers. Tutoring is provided Monday-Thursday from 4:30-6:15. Transportation is also available for all students participating.

Sagamore Hill Elementary School
Sagamore Hill is focused on the whole student! We are having fun with targeted learning right where our students are! Sagamore Hill students are experiencing a wide variety of educational and instructional strategies to advance the learning process. We are currently providing students in 3rd-5th grade with support in Reading, Math and Writing. Some of our support happens during the school day and some happens in small groups after school 3 days a week. We also have many students in Kinder through 5th grade who are growing in their learning while attending Saturday Learning Quest! Here Ms. West, our 5th grade Math Teacher, is working with a small group while the others are working in pairs on targeted learning in fractions! Buchanon is practicing counting large numbers, and our 3rd graders are enjoying writing! Live, Love, Learning at Sagamore Hill!

The Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center combines the resources of the former FWISD Eastside Alliance Community Partnership and the FWISD Historic Stop Six Initiative under the FWISD Division of Equity & Excellence. The FAC is overseen by Stop Six-based Director Dr. Carlos Walker and EHHS-based Charles Hodges, along with their community coordinators Nakia Cole (Stop Six) and Raquel McFadden (EHHS) and two social workers. Together the FAC strives for a robust delivery of client wraparound services and referrals tied to service providers and community resources focused on behavioral, mental and physical health, resources for food and shelter, and job security.
The FAC operates similarly to the FWISD Family Resource Centers with a couple of difference: the FAC adds valuable community resource assistance beyond behavioral, mental and physical health needs, and the FAC serves students, families and individuals beyond those attending the 20 schools in the EHHS and Dunbar pyramids. This includes pairing people up with services for rent and utility assistance programs, job openings, adult education training opportunities, food assistance, housing assistance, and even clothing and toiletries through the EHHS-based Care Closet (a joint initiative between FWISD and the Fort Worth Police Department Homeless Unit).
