September 3 - Day 5
September 4 - Day 1
September 5 - Day 2

SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)
During the first few weeks of school, all staff and students explicitly teach and model expected behavior using the school-wide positive behavior system, Go CATS! During the first week, we focused on “S” which is “Stay Safe.” Students who were wow-ing us with Staying Safe behaviors earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards. Learn more about Go CATS! and SWPBS from your child, your child’s teacher, the EV webpage, EV social media accounts, and at Back to School Nights.
What is CAT Cash? CAT Cash is a small ticket that students earn when they are setting a positive example and working hard at being great CATS (Choose Kindness, Act Respectfully, Take Responsibility, and Stay Safe), which is our matrix of school-wide positive behavior system.
Cat Cash is accumulated and then may be used for participating in special school-wide events or for classroom prizes as determined by the teacher.
Please note: When CAT Cash is distributed the child must understand why it is being given. A child may earn more than one piece of CAT Cash in a day or even in an activity. Each child has a place in their homeroom where they store their CAT Cash. CAT Cash may be earned anywhere at school from the classrooms, hallways, café, and playground. CAT Cash is NOT used for individual behavior charts/plans, and it is only used to acknowledge tier one/Go CATS behaviors.
Stay tuned for more SWPBS and Responsive Classroom news each week.
PRIZE PATROL
Thank you to the families who donated to our first PRIZE PATROL! Our staff we're excited to "come on down" and choose a prize.
EV staff participate in contests to increase their knowledge and instructional practices. How can you help? We'd love donations (CLICK HERE for the prize sign-up). All prizes can be delivered to the East Vincent Elementary School Main Office in an envelope marked "Prize Patrol." Thank you!
LOTS OF FUN AND LEARNING AT EV
Sharing memory boxes in Mrs. Schaefer's fourth grade class is one of many activities to create a classroom community.
Our school counselor, Mrs. Quinn, teaches guidance lessons to students in grades k-3 using the 2nd Step Program.
Second grade writers from Mrs. Serfass' second grade class create descriptions of new friends.
Mathematicians from Mrs. Taglieri's fifth grade class start their math notebooks. Analogy... “In math, we have to follow the order of operations similar to how we have to follow a recipe when we bake. If we don’t follow the order/recipe, then we don’t get the right result.”
Sixth grade students in Mrs. Garman's classes started their year exploring the engineering design process!
SPREAD THE NEWS

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Second Grade Teacher, Mrs. Gallo
My name is Meredith Gallo. This will be my 11th year teaching. I started out teaching 1st grade for 6 years at East Coventry before switching to teach 2 years of kindergarten at EC and then last year teaching kindergarten at French Creek. I have three sons--Patrick (7), Gabriel (5), and Graham (2). I am married to my high school sweetheart. I drink a lot of coffee, read lots of super hero books, know more about trains than I ever thought I would, and build Legos almost daily. I love trying new things in the classroom and really hope to make learning fun for my future 2nd graders.
Third Grade Teacher, Mrs. Derstine
My name is Becca Derstine. I'm so excited to be returning to my second year in third grade at EVES! I've been working with children for over 25 years in all different capacities; I can't imagine doing anything else! I live in Barto with my husband of 18 years and my 13 year old daughter, and 10 and 11 year old sons. I love anything outdoors, especially biking and hiking. I'm super social so I love hanging out with friends and family. Sharpie markers, giraffes, and ice cream are a few things that make me happy:)
EXECUTIVE FUNCTION FAQ
Executive function is a set of skills that help children make plans, control behavior, and set goals. It allows a child to focus on an activity, remember details, and manage time—all critical tasks for success in school.
This month's Report to Parents, “Executive Function FAQs,” will help families learn about their children's executive function skills, and how to strengthen and manage them at home.
