Parent Weekly Update 1.19.24
Greetings WHS families,
It was another great week at WHS! This week WHS students continued the course selection process in homerooms, worked on ACT skills through IXL, and are getting back into the rhythm of the trimester after the recent winter weather related closures. Special thanks to the WHS staff for hosting the Freshman Preview Night on Thursday, January 18th to welcome all of the newest members of the Class of 2028 to WHS!
Be sure to review the updates below as there are important reminders for completing course registration, ACT prep, and upcoming opportunities for WHS students and families.
Have a great weekend, stay warm, and GO PACK!
Watertown Jig Jog 5K
The Watertown Jig Jog 5k for all will take place on Saturday, March 16th at 10:00am. The walk/run route starts and ends at the Public Library / Benzine Family Square and travels past historic areas in Watertown, including the Octagon House.
It features a great atmosphere of live music, free raffles, Irish spirit prizes and a “Little Leprechaun” .4 mile run for children (beginning at 9:40 am). Participants receive a special commemorative clothing item and other surprises. There is a special rate so the whole family can join the fun.
The Watertown Jig Jog promotes fitness, family involvement and community spirit. Our non-profit 5K event is run by the Educational Foundation of Watertown with all proceeds going to local and public and private school classrooms. Last year over $38,000.00 was distributed. IXL ACT Prep
WHS continues to prepare the 11th grade students for the statewide ACT test on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Junior students began accessing digital ACT resources during homeroom in December through IXL. Junior students received their results from the Spring 2023 PreACT in homeroom to complete the Goal Setting Student Handout, input their scores into IXL, and IXL develops a personalized skill plan to guide ACT practice. Student can access IXL both at school as well as outside of WHS. IXL provides an opportunity for development of specific skills to enhance their score on the ACT in March and take advantage of IXL test prep
In January and February, students will also be given information about using MyACT.org as another resource to prep for the test. We encourage families to engage in conversation with their students to best prepare for the exam in March.
