Newsletter Week 6 Term 4
St Joseph's School Waipukurau 23rd November 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Me mahi tahi tātou, mo te oranga o te kātoa
We should work together for the wellbeing of everyone
“I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit ...”
John 15: 16
Kia Ora whanau,
While all Parish Masses are special, this past Sunday’s mass was particularly special in so many ways, not only was the church almost full, we celebrated the First Holy Communion of 10 our our students. In the Gospel we were reminded that God wants us to follow his example by caring, loving and serving one another. This weeks whakatauki resonates this kaupapa/concept/big idea. As you continue to read the newsletter you will be able to feel the support the school is receiving from our community as they demonstrate ‘acts of kindness and service’ to support our school.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to the following families who re confirmed their Baptismal rites and supported their child through this Holy Sacrament. May God continue to nourish and bless you all.
Sarah & Mathew Jackson (Cooper), Norina & Renan Del Mar (George), Alice & Ethan Harper (Adilynn & Isla-Jane), Arlene & Nestor Niegos (Justin), Flobet & Maria Bautista (Carlos), Terri Gartner (Lacie), Amanda & Vincent O’Donnell (Jackson), Andrea & Anthony Thomson (Mason).
School Spirit - Sausage Sizzle
Thank you to Regan’s mum, brother and sister and Isla-Jane, Adilynn and Charlie's Mum for organising, preparing, sharing and serving the delicious sausage sizzle, Oreo cheesecakes and refreshing ice blocks after our morning of Athletic fun.
On their behalf we would like to extend out heartfelt thanks to our local supermarkets: Countdown and New World as well as Tasman Bay Foods for their support. Money raised from this venture will be shared to all our tamariki as an act of kindness gesture at the end of this term
More School Spirit - PFG Shearing Fundraiser
Thank you to Isla, Maisie, Rex and Lottie’s mum, dad and Grandad for hosting the PFG Shearing Fundraiser on the weekend. Supported by Molly’s dad and his farming cadets, Lucy’s dad, Henry’s mum and dad, Finn and Liam’s mum, Tate’s mum and dad, Emily and Finn’s mum and dad, Kelly our cleaner/caretaker and other families and teachers who came to cheer on the team.
The early morning start was rewarded with a family friendly BBQ. THANK YOU! To everyone who supported this day of service.
Heirloom School Spirit - Memories are made of these stories
We extend our thanks to Tate and Rory’s Great Grandparents who bought many years ago, the piano we now have in Room 2. This piano was handed down to Marieta and Phil Enticott (Tate and Rory’s grandparents) and it was played by Claire (Tate and Rory’s mum) during high school. The journey has been a long one and one that has seen its new home in our school. Thank you to the Enticott family for donating your treasured heirloom to us. I hope the piano continues to provide hours of learning pleasure to our learners and that they will be able to use it to bring happiness and life to all those who hear it being played. Tate and Rory’s aunties and uncles are ex students of St Josephs. The legacy continues, blessings to you all.
Awesome Active Athletics
What a fabulous day! Congratulations to all our athletics who pushed themselves to personal best performances.
Congratulations to all our athletics who participated in the Interschool Athletics yesterday afternoon. The remainder of the events - 200m, finals will be held next Tuesday at the same time at the same place!
Creative Crafty, Construction
A snap shot of what these learning experiences looks like this week includes: designing and making rainbow bridges, following instructions to make marshmallow catapults, imagining and making paper Mache masks, experimenting when making chocolate chip cup cakes. All these experiences have helped our students become more competent process writers.
Community Consultation - Korero mai tō whakaaro
Community consultation is an important part of making our school the best it can be. The following survey link is designed to offer you and our school community an opportunity to be involved in our ongoing journey.
I have put together 5 questions about the learning culture and environment of our school. Your responses will provide a clear identification of our current strengths and areas for development as well as giving you a voice in the education of our learners.
Please take the time to have your say by Monday 28th November.
OR, please come and have a cup of tea and a chat with me next week and tell me your answers in person. Please book a time with Sarah in the office if this is your preferred option, bring a friend!

MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL LEADERS
Tena koutou katoa
Welcome back to another school week. Hopefully everyone had a great weekend with an extra day off on Monday.
Thanks so much to the families who supported the Shearing Fundraiser.
On Sunday it was great to see lots of students at the School Mass on Sunday. Congratulations to the ten students who made their First Holy Communion.
Last week, on Friday, the Year 3s and up, walked over to the college to do Athletics.
Congratulations to the students who made it to the interschools athletics competition on Tuesday this week. At the interschools athletics all the St Joseph athletes did an amazing job but sadly due to bad weather it has been postponed to next Tuesday.
Next week Room 6 will be going to Splash Planet. They have all deserved to go since they have dedicated themselves to doing road patrol in the mornings and afternoons each day. Room 6 is also going to Tutira to do high ropes and Canadian canoeing.
This Friday a group of eleven year 7 & 8s will be competing in the Top Schools Competition where they will be participating in fun teamwork games.
Have a good week.-Hannah and Molly.
CATHOLIC CHARACTER
What is a Jesse Tree?
Jesse Tree is a way of preparing for Advent by journeying through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Each day of Advent, read a Bible story about someone on Jesus’s family tree and hang an ornament symbolizing the story on your Jesse Tree. As you decorate your tree, you’ll see how God prepared for Jesus to be born through many generations. The Jesse Tree tradition is rooted in Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of David, Israel’s greatest king. And Jesus is descended from the line of David. He is the branch God promised would grow from Jesse’s family tree. Each symbol represents a story from within this family tree and a step toward the birth of Jesus.
